Why do people have to go to the pubs/ clubs to drink? You can do it at home with friends and it will be a LOT cheaper and safer to do so

Well :billie:  I mean, it was always lunacy to open up pubs and stuff like that when several areas in England have an r rate above 1 :billie:  England is handling this REALLY bad, I feel so sorry for those acting responsibile but this is BJs failure.

If it gets out of hand again, I hope you'll go into lockdown again... and if the r rate gets too high, I do hope Nicola closes the border here in Scotland. We're doing so well, and while we are working towards eradication, that doesn't seem the plan in England.

I don't think this is Boris' fault. People need to take responsibility for themselves instead of just saying it's the government's fault. This is on the people, they ****ed up, they made their own decision. This wasn't "Boris said we could have a knees up so lets get plastered together". This could have worked if people were more sensible and there was a more strict implementation of social distancing, the police were basically just watching them instead of dispersing.

No. Boris is the man in charge. People take directive from the man in charge. He is using the people of England as a way of taking all accountability off his hands.  It was never ever going to work with the r-rate in several places creeping up, and the average for England was 0.8. It was always going to be a failure. The virus is still here... Boris is supposed to protect you, not allow the virus to spike again.

Boris Johnson allowed pubs to open when it wasn't safe. Boris Johnson allowed travel to various parts in England and is lifting rules for people going on holiday. Boris Johnson reduced the distancing rule from 2 metres to 1 metre. Boris Johnson is choosing the economy over people's health. Boris Johnson is still going with "herd immunity" but releasing lockdown too early and putting the blame on the people. This is his doing.

Yes, there is SOME blame on the people. It was their choice to go outside, to get drunk, and to not socially distance. But when the man in charge that is supposed to lead you is allowing this to happen, then most of the blame DOES and SHOULD be put on Boris Johnson and his UK Government. Its disgusting what he is doing.

If you don't hold BJ accountable, then you are very naive and need to rethink things.

I think it was too soon to end lockdown. They should have continued it a bit longer otherwise we'll be in lockdown again when the new school year starts and I think they should have avoided that so everything goes properly back to normal.

How long then ?? The economic and social costs of this are already huge...many people are losing jobs which will cause far greater health and social issues than CV19.

You  might not have CV19 but you may lose your home if you cant pay the rent, or you haven't enough money to buy food.....imagine the physical and mental health consequences of that. And if that's already happening to you the  I'm  sorry you're in that mess

Also everyone has to make their own decisions, you can flap about Corona, but everytime you get out of bed it's a risk- you could fall down the stairs, get in a car accident etc etc  but you get on with life anyway.. same as the folk in London- your choice to make- accept the risk that comes with it.

There were clear guidelines issued as part of the reopening of pubs as well as lockdown guidelines in general, the people clearly didn't follow any of it (just like all the other non-socially distanced mass gatherings throughout this whole lockdown). Clearly the people can not be trusted and it's shown just how selfish people are. I don't think it's too much to ask for people to use their brains, think for themselves and act responsibly.

Boris is damned if he does things, damned if he doesn't. Do I think he's handled everything perfectly? No. Do I think he's trying his best given the circumstances? Yes. There'd be hardly any businesses to go back to if he waited until there was 0 cases of coronavirus (this coming from someone who is more than likely going to lose their job regardless in this sector). There has to be a balance and co-operation somewhere. Imagine the progress if everyone actually followed the guidelines...

Where was the clear advice? There was no clear advice or guidance from the government. Absolutely zero. Having a 1m+ rule is useless... and did Boris REALLY consider people when they are drunk? Of course not. Pubs should have remained closed. People act differently under the influence. The advice from the government was so vague, it allowed for people to do what they did.

As I said, how can you expect people to do things properly if the government themselves are so vague about everything? I don't think its too much to ask for the UK government to actually look at the science, realise that the r-rate is still too high in England, and actually do something about it. You cannot put the blame solely on the people, or put most of the blame on the people. The man in charge is Boris Johnson, and his failings to do his job which is to keep people safe and eliminate the virus in England are very apparent. He should be the one to blame since he allowed it to happen in the first place.

He is not trying his best given the circumstances, it would be foolish to think otherwise. Anyone who is in a huge role will have criticism. But, if he looked at Nicola Sturgeon and saw how she is treating it in Scotland, he could learn a thing or two and actually run things properly.

You have to find a balance between the two... peoples lives need to come first. Whats the point on opening things up, having people in, for them just to get sick and possibly die? What's the point on opening up things for them to be shut down again? Peoples lives have to come first. Eliminate the virus, or get the r-rate low, then open back up again. If you think otherwise, you have your priorities all wrong like Boris does.

Is it bad that I’m not surprised? :emma: People’s lives revolve around the pub, so the first day of them opening was going to be like this sadly

Omg where's the social distancing rules??? :saladga:

Here in Canada almost every Province has reopened most of the economy already but distancing rules remain in effect.

There isn't any in England. Guidance is 1m+ between people, and masks aren't mandatory.

masks are only mandatory on public transport and the distancing is meant to be 1meter+ but those recommendations are only 'guidance' and not law :saladga:

Here it's 2M

And most businesses have reopened now but they have to ensure that ppl can be 2m apart

For many businesses that means operating below full capacity. Stores only allowing so many ppl in at once, hair dressers are done by appointment now no walk-ins so that a bounch of don't go in all at once

And most businesses (like my hair cutting place) now require masks

The pictures don't surprise me, they don't anger me either though. It is what it is. The end goal is vaccination or herd immunity. And its vital that the economy gets a kick start. It was the first night after 3 months of course it was going to be busy.. I went out drinking and it wasn't as busy as that in Manchester but was still busy.

The problem is this much crowding can cause sudden spikes

Keeping the economy closed forever and trying to keep cases at 0 until a vaccine may not be realistic

But spikes that are too big and too many cases at once can overwhelm the healthcare system and lead to more deaths

There's also the fact that if cases get too high strategies like contact tracing stop being effective
