Just read through the replies... and damn, the ignorance in this thread is just :billie:  how difficult is it to wear a mask? Yeah the first time I wore one, I was a bit taken back and wanted to take it off immediately... but you get used to it, and breathing is fine with a mask. Just wear it... or if you want to make it more comfortable, buy ones that are more stylish or make you feel better!

Girl educate yourself, the whole internet is just waiting for you. Covid 19 is spread through respiratory droplets, which means when that woman coughed in that persons direction she spread all her respiratory droplets in his direction. Had she worn a mask, they wouldn’t be traveling towards other people.

so why do I need to wear a mask and put myself at risk of other health issues if I’m being respectful?

You're lucky you don't live near me. All the stores have signs in the window, no mask no service. If you walk in without a mask they tell you to leave.

I’m respectful in public, I keep my distance, I don’t sneeze nor cough in public (if I do cough due to being a smoker I cover my mouth with my arm) so why do I need to wear a mask and put myself at risk of other health issues if I’m being respectful?

Because sneezing or coughing in your arm isn’t as effective as wearing a mask. What health issues are you putting yourself at risk for exactly? There’s studies that prove c02 levels aren’t a risk. Are you okay with you potentially getting someone sick and risking their life? Just wear a mask, it’s the right and respectful thing to do.

:triggered: just saying these people yelling & tackling them are putting themselves are more risk by coming in close contact.

Ik it’s annoying some people don’t wear them. But that’s just reality. It’s safer to just keep a far distance from than put yourself at risk from confrontation.

Also js, it’s hypocritical if you support denying service to people not wearing masks but than believe we should force people to serve based off sexual orientation. It can’t be both ways. Either you support the right to deny service or you don’t. Can’t be exceptions for whatever fits your political agenda.

I don't think it's the same thing tho. Because a dangerous virus is literally contagious and u risk other people

If someone doesn't approve of homosexuality it's not like serving them is forcing them to agree or like they are gonna catch something. You don't need to approve of someone else's life for a business transaction it is totally irrelevant

But in a pandemic a mask is a thing to enhance safety that can potentially save lives

So totally different situation

:triggered: where is the law criminalizing coughing in your country? Can you show me the legal ramification?

You may think that it is.

And it certainly is flat out disrespectful. No doubt about that. But i highly doubt it is a legal CRIME.

Coughing is not illegal. Coughing or spitting purposely with the intent of spreading disease, or causing the spread of disease by negligence, is. It is a violation of the victim's physical integrity, and in bigger scale, the community and society around them.

These laws have been in practice for a very long time. Most cases where it was applied in the past was with people spreading HIV on purpose after finding out they got it, by stabbing people with needles or having sex without protection and not disclosing their status, for example. But, with a global pandemic going around, it's pretty easy to apply them to COVID as well.

Sorry, these are in Portuguese, but I'll try to translate what they are saying.

This one is a part of our law in Portugal:

Intentional propagation of a contagious disease is punishable with 1 to 8 years in prison. If it is done unintentionally because of negligence, it is punishable with up to 5 years and a big money fine.

(Portugal Republic's Official Journal)

This one about the UK:

Coughing on purpose on essential workers, specially medical professionals and police officers can be punishable with up to 2 years in prison. If you do it to common citizens, then the punishment will be lower.

If stores in the US can say "No shirt no shoes no service," they can certainly say, "No mask no service." That is very different from refusing to serve someone because of their race or sexual orientation. Also, I note the irony that a lot of people (not on this site, but out in the world) who think it is a business's right to discriminate suddenly are in an uproar about a business's right to ask people to wear masks to protect their employees and customers. It's like, Okay, we agree that a bakery shouldn't have to bake a cake for a gay wedding, but how dare Home Depot require its customers to wear masks?! :triggered:

Also, studies have been conducted proving that wearing a mask doesn't lower one's oxygen levels or increase one's CO2 levels except in the rarest of cases. If people have breathing problems that make it uncomfortable for them to wear a mask, gosh, they're really not going to enjoy being on a ventilator.

Ultimately, wearing a mask is less for yourself and more about those around you. If we both wear masks and one of us has covid, and we're in close proximity of each other, there's only a 1.5% chance that the virus will be transmitted to the other person. By collectively wearing masks, we can open up the economy and contain the virus. Countries in Asia were able to contain the virus without locking down because nearly 100% of the population wears masks in public. Even little kids in Asia wear masks to school without complaining. Taiwan has had no new cases of local transmission in weeks, and everyone there still wears masks in public. It's a simple act that saves people's lives and saves the economy. There are tons of masks out there now. You can find all sorts of interesting designs for cloth masks, and if you find cloth masks too warm, medical masks are easier to find now.

I went to the dentist last week. My hygienist was wearing an N95 and a surgical mask and a plastic shield. I'm sure it's not comfortable for her to wear those for 8 or 9 hours a day. If she can do that, I can wear a cute cloth mask or lightweight surgical mask during the 25 minutes I spend grocery shopping.

Also, tucking a tissue over the bridge of your nose underneath your mask will keep your glasses from fogging up.

Literally this. I have to wear a high grade mask for 8 hours a day in my job in the heat with no AC

So when ppl complain over a cloth one for 20 Minutes I just wanna tell at them :saladga:

This person is worried about respiratory health issues and is a heavy smoker? Like dafuq.

There was another person in this thread that doesn't see how coughing can spread disease.

Are we living in the 1700's where people don't know how the air works? Or in the 40's where smoking was prescribed as a respiratory treatment? We are on the internet ffs :saladga:
