If it's a statue of a person, that means that person is important or esteemed in some way. I am not saying to topple all the statues in, for example, Rome of military generals who enslaved people, but the effects of African slavery and colonialism that was started by Europeans 500 years ago has caused generational trauma for people of colour that lasts till this day. We are more educated nowadays with globalization and the internet. Therefore, we should not continue to have these public monuments that honour these people from history. But taking that statue down will erase its glorified status, there is absolutely no need for the statue of a racist to still being up there, so if you're complaining about this then I think its beyond a thing of history and maybe just an excuse to have a poor argument and make a comment to let your racism come out in a subtle way Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I won’t stand for his statue to be thrown in the Thames. Colston was deserved, he was a known slave treader. But Churchill, really? If that happened, the rest of the country would not take this movement seriously and it will 100% backfire and cause more racism. London protesters need to be careful.
