Sour Candy is also one of the stronger songs for having Blackpink on it too. 911 is just really catchy but I don’t think the beat is the best.

Listening to Rain On Me it just sounds like they took a little more effort producing it. the beat is just so well produced and euphoric? It really stands out from the rest of the album. while most of the album has repetitive beats and a similar sound throughout, Rain On Me sounds like it has more layers, it has more beats going on that stands out.

Plus the fact Ariana Grande is on it is just the cherry on top. She really fits the song so much it can actually pass as an Ariana Grande solo too.

Well we will have to agree to disagree in our opinions.

'A Star Is Born' soundtrack is a better album. :enigma:

Spoiler

Now, I love Chromatica, but ASIB just has this timeless quality where I feel like I could listen to it in 20 years and it won't have aged, and i just don't know if that will be true for Chromatica.

Chromatica is very, very 90s Euro House so I get what you mean. I love it (then again, I love pretty much every type of music), and I think it's better than TF & TFM (more cohesive, better lyrically in some ways)—but with the exception of maybe Replay (which sounds almost like a classic disco track) and 911 (which is just bizarre enough that I think it will escape sounding dated)....I don't think it will age as well as BTW, Joanne, or ASIB.

But in some ways I feel like that's due to the genre: I love electronic/house music, but it somehow often comes across as more dated than say...the stadium rock/hair metal meets electropop vibe that some of the BTW tracks have that seems more timeless despite being similar to some 80s music. It's hard to describe, but that's just how it reads to me. For example, I love Daft Punk, LCD Soundsystem, and even Robyn...but a lot of their music just screams 90s/early 00s and a bit stale at times. I can't listen to it all the time as opposed to say...Queen.

Sour candy is one of the songs that i skipped in the album, besides its free woman.:cryga:

Cannot relate to fun tonight but get a strong emotion when I heard Alice and I don't know why

Really appreciate the final version of Babylon instead of the HL one:ladyhaha:

It's an excellent album (9 out of 10 imo) but in some ways it feels like.... not terribly unique. I know the latter part sounds like an insult, even if it's not meant to be because I feel like Confessions of a Dance Floor and Future Nostalgia and half of Cher's albums kind of fit that parameter too. I feel like a lot of it is due to the genre? At the same time, she's done electronic music before....and had more "weird" songs. In this case, there are only a few distinct "Gaga" songs imo.

Some review mentioned fan service, and I do wonder if that was a factor. She's in a crazy, ageist industry and her genre isn't particularly friendly to women past 35. Taylor Swift discussed the ageism factor/the need to reinvent in her documentary. Madonna's last big album was when she was 45, and she was the exception...and Robyn may be critically acclaimed but she barely sells. It's easy for fans to become "disinterested" and move on to the next shiny thing and stop playing the music of their old fav as much. Gaga obviously loves electronic music, but I almost wonder if she went for "maximum danceablity in the clubs" factor (so less "Teeth" and more "Babylon") because she's aware of how easily the fans can move on.

*I don't think she'll ever stop doing pop, but I feel like this may be her farewell to house/more mainstream "bangers in the club" type music and she might move on to more Robyn style still dancey but less mainstream electropop.

Sine from Above is one of the best songs in Gaga's discography and is on par with Born This Way and Bad Romance in terms of being definitive of their respective albums

"Stupid Love" was the right lead single to get people hyped up. It's more radio-friendly than most of the other tracks, with the exception of "Rain On Me."

"Alice" would not make a good single (I like it and it's catchy, but I don't think it's as GP-friendly as people here seem to think).

I think the "Rain On Me" choreography is really cheesy, but the video is otherwise awesome.

While there are a couple of exceptions, I feel most of the tracks work best when listened to as part of the album. What this means is that for me is that if I listen to the songs outside the context of the album, they don't stand up that well on their own. But I don't dislike those songs, I just find them lackluster on their own, but they work really well in the context of the album.

"Sour Candy" is my favorite track to listen to as a standalone.

I have a feeling I will appreciate the live performances of most of these songs more than the album versions.

There are so many ****ing producers, writers, etc. It's ridiculous, we deserve more original, un****ed-with ideas by The Queen herself, I'm just gonna say that.

Oh also Sour Candy is such a waste of talent, seriously. Those beautiful girls and the Queen could have created something bigger, deeper, gayer and much more creative tbh.

Don't wanna kiss, don't wanna touch, just drink my ****ing coffee and watch 90's cartoons and hush

911 should be a single... & I think cryptically gaga is denouncing her fans in some of the songs lol

Sour Candy is the weakest song of the album.

Plastic Doll is amazing.

Replay is one of the best songs of the album. I SAID WHAT I SAID.

Both versions of 1000 Doves are good. Also one of the best songs on the album.

Free Woman album version is 1000x better than the demo.

Love Me Right sounds like Ally (but it’s so good)

Babylon would have been much better with the Haus Labs mix. I still love it anyway :vegas:

The production on all of the songs is basic and brings nothing new to the table for 2020 pop music.
