Now I can get behind this! They weren't historical anyways. Do this instead of ruining cities, this is progress! It's not rewriting history of the civil war btw, we have more important artifacts from that time period.

I'm not gonna lie, I have learned a lot the last couple days I never knew before and I'm grateful for that.  But if it means running into bumps like these every now and then, then I guess that's the way you learn.  Thank y'all for showing me the light :vegas:

Please dm if you want any resources. I'd be happy to help. I am spending tonight with my boyfriend before he goes home and I may not see him for months. So please understand that I can't educate tonight. But I WILL get back to you if you have questions.

Then let's set fire to every holocaust museum or destroy every historical artifact that's not PC today. :awkney:

Look, I'm vocal about taking down the statues but outright destroying them and forgetting they ever existed could be dangerous.  Tho, I understand the impulse the protesters/rioters

Nothing about these statues are historical, in the context of the Civil War. They were built purposefully to celebrate white supremacy and to intimidate African Americans. Some of these went up after the Civil Rights movements. History my a**

The American Civil War happened during 1861-1865. Many of the Confederate statues were built 100 years later

Yup. John Oliver did a whole segment on it. They built most of these statues at the height of the civil rights movement which is very telling.

If the intention was to remember history they would have been made and placed in a museum but they were erected in public for veneration and to remind black Americans that they're second class citizens. Imagine living in a town that has a statue of a slaver at city hall :smh:

OT: I don't support vandalism but I'll make an exception for this since it's long overdue :huntyga:

Brad

I was there in Bham last night. Happy to see the statue go, but Woodfin (our sellout mayor) told us give him until Tuesday and he'll have it down. I highly doubt that so I'm expecting another protest tonight.
