HEARTSTOP 3,154
I am outraged with the video I saw yesterday. It is inhumane and unjustifiable. I am also appalled that people think anything can justify taking the life of innocent people. So apparently by this logic, if someone murders your family, you can just burn down a city because that's justifiable. I understand the outrage, but this will only cause suffering to people who have nothing to do with it, and possibly even worsen the way black people are seen in America. People who were previously on the fence of being racist might completely turn because they see what devastation is being caused by this. I know this might sound insensitive, but considering the consistently racist track of the US, and never seeing this kind of uprising and revolution because of one single death (it is horrible but there have been even more horrendous racist incidents even recently that would justify uprisings so much more), makes me think that yes, people are outraged, but probably many of them were just bored being stuck at home all this time and are finding an excuse to go to the streets and commit crimes anonymously. Black lives matter. Violence is never the solution. IDGAF

I understand the reasoning behind their actions, the threats black men face should not be silenced. but you cannot truly believe that all anger comes from the minds of people thinking straight. Attention should be on the murderers and making sure they receive whatever they deserve. As much as you may think some uprising on society through looting and burning is a good idea, we all know how this will go down. People will take this as a sign of terrorism and the polarization will only grow stronger. It amazes me how many times humanity needs to see this happen again and again to get that. Thank-you. I can't believe how many comments here are actually praising this it's rediculous I'd like to see if they owned a shop that was their livelyhood and see how much they'd still support this if it was their shop being robbed or stollen when they had nothing to do with the injustice Things like this help no one. It only makes protestors look like terrorists like u said People talk about hard action for change but honestly when ppl do really crazy sh*t in the name of change it only makes them seem crazy extremists and it ends up working against the cause not for it

Franz Ferdinand 2,359
I find it interesting that so many people in this thread are so eager to denounce what they characterize as "senseless" violence against these businesses. I hope y'all have the same energy + more to denounce the centuries of violence against black folk. No? Then stfu.

I call out police brutality just the same including racially motivated violence But that doesn't mean I have to approve of this... Like at all Id like to see u own a shop and have ur livelyhood burned or people stealing from u on some protest against a situation u had nothing to do with it. How would u feel? Many of these shop owners could be black themselves or progressives who aren't racist at all. There's no evidence they specifically targeted racists here when choosing shops to attack Telling ppl to STFU doesn't make u look enlightened or intelligent at all

And I truly hope you do. I hope you have all the right conversations with non-Black folk about race. That you educate yourself about the history of anti-blackness around the world and that you share that with white folk, primarily, because it sure ain't the job of Black people to educate white folk about the oppression they instated. And, yes, that you denounce police brutality, not quietly, but loudly, so loudly absolutely everyone who knows you (and even those who don't) can hear you. 2 minutes ago, Economy said: But that doesn't mean I have to approve of this... I just don't think it has to be one or the other. People can be upset at what happened (and has been happening for ages) and still be upset at this as well and call it out Calling this out does not automatically mean we in turn discrediting the source of anger I strongly believe being rightfully angry does not mean that suddenly u can do whatever u want because ur anger fondamentally is well rooted The moment we go down that road suddenly we can justify anything and everything and society would turn to total chaos in no time, even more than it already is

Starting with the American Revolution. Also mess at someone not even having the guts to respond to me and calling me privileged again. If not believing in violence against innocent people makes me privileged then so be it. But if all the privileged people in the world believed in peaceful resolution we as a society would not be in the situations we are in. Recklessness and a heated heart are never a good pair, both the privileged and unprivileged know this to be true. Like I’ve said before, there are better ways to handle this than destroying innocent people’s lives. And why should we be here and have a conversation about police brutality and racism when we are on the same page about it being bad? We should never have to have a back and fourth about that topic. If we were to get a 10 paged thread on GGD about people’s opinions on Racism, sexism, homophobia, etc. and if it’s alright then that is troubling to say the least. 11 minutes ago, Franz Ferdinand said: I mean, if anything, I would point out the number of protests that incurred in, yes, property damage and civil disobedience, that actually made a difference. Ads reminding people not to be racist, More teachings in class rooms regarding racism, Stricter punishment on police officers who murder civilians? This is not meant to be an attack, I’m just curious as to what you propose would be a just response by the governments.
