Dissecting Rain On Me

Okay yaas my first post!

I really just wanted to list and discuss all of my personal observations/things I love about Rain On Me! Everything about this song is firing on all cylinders. It's going to be such a smash hit and another of many highlights in Gaga's already bedazzled career. Let me just preface by saying that I love EVERYTHING about this song, these are just some of the things that really jump out to me!

Things I Love About the Production:

- The strange synth note that opens the track, immediately grabs your attention and then does a complete 180 into the airy sound of the opening verse

-  The piano loop! It has such a dynamic sound throughout the song and really solidifies that this is a modernized house song

- The string melody during the pre-chorus that gradually and effortlessly blends into the looping piano as the chorus ramps up

- Gaga's sexy British robot voice, it seriously never gets old

- The vocal harmonizations are outstanding, Ari's soft breathy voice layered with Gaga's falsetto, and later in the bridge her angelic soft soprano contrasting perfectly with Gaga's deep spoken voice, this is just a classic Gaga song that sounds like something you'd hear on the radio, while also sounding nothing like anything else currently getting radio play

Things I Love About the Music Video:

-First and foremost, @Gui made a great post about the storyline and meaning in the video, which actually inspired me to finally make an account! That post is here

- The initial gritty aesthetic, Robert Rodriguez's visual style really shines through in the first verse, harkening back to Sin City where the background almost appears low-quality, grainy, and colourless while Gaga is crisp, clean and bright at the forefront

- The close-ups of Gaga in the rain inside of... a glass box? TV screen? Fish bowl? We've seen similar ambiguous headshots before in Bad Romance, serving to add another layer of depth and mystique to the visuals (also an excuse to serve another iconic look - that deep red glossy lip holding up perfectly in spite of the downpour, werk Haus Labs)

- The choreography here is excellent, it's still busier than her choreography of eras bygone, but maintains the similar feel of past choreography that anyone can learn and eventually master it. There is a local queen in my city who serves full Gaga lipsyncs and choreo, and I can't wait to see her absolutely smash this performance when the bars open up again

- The looks of course, I don't think I can say much more about these that hasn't already been said, EXCEPT: Gaga serving iconic wearability & affordability this era, her and Ari's platforms are less than $200 and super easy to find (and we're going to be seeing those Stack 301s all over Coachella this year), and you can also purchase pieces of Gaga and Ari's latex looks for less than $300 each. Here is an article that discusses the latex bodysuits with the costume designer and info on where to purchase!

- (Edited to add this because I totally forgot and it's absolutely one of my fav parts of the music video!) The way that the background dancers gradually blend together creating a seamless colour transition between Gaga's pink and Ariana's purple. Also how the overall looks become lighter in colour along with the lighting filter as the video progresses, showing the healing process through colour. Here's a quick screengrab of the blended colour scene I'm talking about

- The true biggest takeaway here is two beautiful, talented (Italian) women coming together in true collaboration. Holding hands while skipping around in the rain, and the iconic shot of them hugging at laughing together at the video's end. This is an authentic relationship we see rarely in the music industry where female pop artists tend to stay in their pop lane, and collaborations end where the song does. But here we can see their friendship reflected in our own friendships, and, well, we love to see it.

Hope you enjoyed reading, this was a lot of fun for me to fully write down. I can't wait to hear your thoughts!

I promise I've always loved her! Part of the reason it took me so long to make an account was because I was scared of all the negativity I was seeing in the Chromatica discussion thread(s) leading up to her announcement of the new release date:huntyga:

I agree with all of this! I would also add that I really like the Daft Punk vibe of the beat, it reminds me of the the early 2000’s and I love it. Mixed with the modern synth-piano-string arrangement, it’s a nice a nice combo!

This ensemble with a knife/dagger stabbed on her leg is already one of Gaga's most remarkable looks in her career.

The dagger:giveup:

Seriously her creativity has no limits. And her influence!! I've already seen a couple people posting here about getting a dagger tattoo on their thigh!

The Daft Punk vibe cements it as song of the summer for me, it's got that carefree funky vibe that you love to hear when you're out in the sun (the irony that it's a song about rain!), and infinite replay value
