Gaga didn't co-produce Stupid Love: What does this mean for Chromatica?

I think that's the issue- I probably held her to a standard that was false/not adjacent to my expectations.

I think, with other songs or with other albums, it's been noted that Gaga has a heavy hand in producing. In some cases, she has been the sole or primary producer (TIHTY, Venus). I looked up to that from her, especially as a very commercial pop star. To me, it really indicated pure involvement.

I mean, in the end it's whatever, you know.

i can't agree with you. the choices she make are still hers and deciding which people make up the creative team around her, including producers, songwriters etc strongly dictates the direction of the album. relying on others takes as much involvement as doing everything yourself but the wiser choice is to let the experts do what they're experts of.

this comes off as the same argument on why beyoncé or other people who don't fully pen their songs aren't artists. doing everything yourself does not mean your better or more of a true artist than those who choose to rely on others.

but that's just my 2 cent.

That's totally fair. This is more on me to loosen up my feelings and expectations surrounding Gaga as an artist.

There's nothing wrong with writing camps and large scale collaborations- it's common in pop music, and tends to give fantastic results. I know Gaga has done that a few times, but I think, especially from 2016-onward (Joanne, ASIB), I had this false idea that she was growing into this highly independent, singer/songwriter and producer archetype that I always wanted her to become? In response to the idea of "let the experts do what they're experts of", I think I was expecting Gaga herself to become that.

Obviously, that's on me, not on her, and I'm not invalidating her current creative process as an artist. This is more the differentiation of expectation versus reality, as a fan. This might be my first "delusional stan gets a lukwarm wake-up call" moment.

Still excited to see what Chromatica brings, in that regard! Then I will make a more nuanced judgment.

Battle 4 Ur Life

you guys try so damn hard at being negative, it’s shameful.

SL is an insane bop, who cares if she didn’t get producer credits. it’s definitely not like she just sat there in the pool while they did all the work. come on.

besides she has produced many great songs, she needs not to prove anything to you.

I've seen her as more of a performer for a while now - that's not a bad thing, performing is her strength and she's catering to it... I see albums, at least ones from main pop girls, much more as collaborative efforts  - Gaga may not have done everything herself, but a lot of other people were involved who are trying to keep it fresh and deserve recognition... If anything, I would have preferred Gaga collaborated with good songwriters more, cuz songwriting hasn't been the best from what I've heard from Chromatica so far :enigma:

It's a joke! When you give me that look, it's a joke!

I believe that some of them are just more negative since this whole quarantine. Perhaps, they just need a good f**k.

She has writing credits on all of them but the user you quoted was correct in a way with what he said.

Perfect Illusion and Come To Mama were both written by other people and Gaga went in and made extremely tiny adjustments to a few of the words.

And with TIHTY it was confirmed that Gaga changed I think a word or two, but helped with rearranging some things so she got writing credit.

ah i had no idea about perfect illusion. where'd ya read that? this BBC article seems to indicate otherwise

Sampling on what? We've only really heard one song and a snippet of another :air:

also, FYI, almost the entire Electric Chapel beginning instrumental is sampled. The melody of Alejandro's instrumental is sampled. It's not new. Samples aren't bad.

Babylon is twice sampled...Stupid Love is sampled...Plastic Doll is allegedly sampled Daft Punk...etc

They're not bad I suppose but I like the idea of being as organic as possible and making songs from a fresh standpoint...not pre-made templates and instrumentals and just slapping vocals on top...no shade to Gaga but it does come across as a lil lazy...especially with how much time she has had to make the album...

Sofianer

There are other big artists out there who get credit for something they didn't even do..

Perhaps she had a vision for Stupid Love but Max Martin gave her a better version (the one that suited her most) so she went with that one without changing it. Heck, even if it's not the case who gives a damn just enjoy the music ffs, y'all are so quick to judge her and jump on the hate train

She sampled a LOT in her albums, you can look it up on YouTube

Doesn't mean she's lazy nor she's not caring as much as before. :laughga:
