i will forever never understand what compelled her to believe it would be okay to work on a song together with R Kelly, especially given the lyrical content of the song in question :smh:

I don't agree with what she did either, but at the end of the day, we're all humans and we all make mistakes. What's important is that she did what she could later to make up for it.

The way I feel is, she was in a really dark place during that time, and we can't understand what goes on in a mind of someone feeling the way she was. Maybe she wanted to get back at the world? Idk

We're far from the Shallow now

I personally think it was a combination of being in a bad place in her life + the desire to shock the public with R. Kelly on a track as sexual as DWUW. It was a total lapse of judgment but she’s learned and she’s apologized so that’s that.

This is old tho, isn't it? I mean the Surviving R.Kelly documentary (the first part) premiered in early 2019.

I don't think so, it was listed in Netflix's new section.

But maybe it is, I thought it was new, but could just be new to Netflix.

I agree, but she did offer a pretty raw and honest explanation of where she was at at the time. Is it on her IG? Maybe someone could find it and post it. I appreciated the explanation she offered.

Yup, it's entirely on her. I guess they thought the benefit of controversy would outweigh the negatives. But it didn't. And hopefully she learned from the fact that it came back to bite at the worst possible time (during the ASIB era)

This no hate towards Gaga but she was also high 99% of the time and that doesnt help with making good decisions either but Im so glad she is happy now

I did a research now, well the first season of the documentary premiered in January 2019 and the second season in January 2020 , both on Lifetime! The Impact is a documentary about the documentary :billie: of Surviving R.Kelly and indeed premiered in Netflix US 2 weeks ago

this is kinda embrassing

It's important that they showed that Gaga wanted to be on the right side of things.  It really does show the impact of the documentary. Yes it is a bit embarassing that she worked with him to begin with, but everyone does things they regret.

Tycho

Thank you so much for posting! I hadn't seen this. Glad it was about her removing DWUW and not before it.

She just wanted to be provocative, it’s quite obvious.

ICouldntThinkOfOne

Part of me always felt like this was only a feature with Kelly because MJ was dead and she wanted a controversial partner the media could never own, if it wasnt going to be someone who fell from grace, it was going to going to be someone on the verge of a comeback.

...turns out the media hit in the nail on the head with this one though.

Part me of wishes she put the solo track on the Album but it will always be tainted.

From what I can tell, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, at the time R Kelly wasn't actually accused of rape or many of the other things he's accused of now. Up to that point in 2012/2013 he was only accused of having s*x with 16/17 year olds and having videos/pictures of the girls engaging in s*xual acts with him.

Not that that's much better....but he was acquitted of those charges. A lot of people worked with him after the fact and he ended up having a lot of success musically.

A LOT of people thought he was falsely accused, and was just being hounded by the media when he was actually innocent. I guess Gaga was one of those people.

All the extra shyt about R Kelly came out after Gaga did a song with him.
