dit 46,738
low key it makes no sense to continue this lockdown if you are not going to provide adequate financial support to people. the only reason the lockdown is sort of working in Canada is because the government is willing to pay people enough to at least cover rent (and even then it is far from enough and does not cover hardly enough people). Either you do a lockdown properly and support your people or you dont do it at all and let people work. Yall dont understand the financial burden of all of this....people are going to literally become homeless, lose their homes, jobs, savings, assets, wont be able to pay bills, will have HUGE credit card debt etc...more people will die from not being able to pay for doctor visits after this economic mess because they will be broke, more illnesses will go undiagnosed cuz the medical system is STACKED at the moment etc..etc..etc..literally either let people work or pay people enough to stay home! that's it. Yes the protests may be misguided, but for some, they either risk getting covid or are unable to put food on the table for their families. Can you people not understand their desperation. For them, it’s between a virus which the news reports gives you a 1% chance of dying, and totally economic ruin, which will likely kick them out of their homes, split up their families, and make finding food almost impossible. They believe that this choice should be theirs to make, not the governments. GGD preaches about being kindness but are quick to wish death and call names upon to those they do not understand. even more reasons to want to be wrecked by you

A single $1200 check does nothing, we all need to work here Where did you get that? Yes, people all over the world need to work to get money, no governement in the world has that kind of money to “pay people to stay home”.

I understand your concern for people's jobs, but let's look at this particular protest: 1. People were not distancing at all, standing there "shoulder to shoulder" 2. They were holding signs saying "Death.... is preferable to communism." 3. People leading the protest are quoted saying "Churches need to open. If you can open the slaughterhouses of abortion clinics, you can open churches." So no, there's nothing simple about this, and maybe you too can understand better why the lack of sympathy for their cause.

Thanks This article talks about this kind of protests : To be clear, these recent right-wing demonstrations are largely a reiteration of old populist campaigns in support of “limited government” rhetoric and “free market” politics. They provide cover for reactionary efforts to enhance corporate power and profits via massive business bailouts during times of crisis, coupled with opposition to policies with the potential to benefit the many. The emerging right-wing protest narrative is a repetition of protest narratives about citizen empowerment that draw momentum from the saturation coverage that was afforded to the Tea Party movement and the Trump “rebellion.” https://www.counterpunch.org/2020/04/21/coronavirus-and-rightwing-rebellion-retreading-a-tired-narrative/

I can literally see the capitol building from my apartment, and after these protests I'm more at risk than ever My boyfriend's dad is an officer who had to put his health at risk and insert himself into this petri dish so that Applebees could reopen... I just can't imagine being so reckless. There are other forms of peaceful protest that do not involve gathering shoulder to shoulder at the state capitol during a pandemic They / Them
