That’s why Biden needs someone younger.

Same thing would have gone for Bernie if he had won the nomination. He would have gone with a younger female.

Hillary didn’t unite the party in 2016 by choosing a progressive candidate, and not only did she NOT stomp Trump like everyone said she would, but she lost. Unfortunately the corporate dems are too blind by money to see that. 

True, but there are many different camps in the Democratic party, and each has a different impact in different states. Sanders does best among the youth, particularly among (white) people in bigger cities. But is that strength going to help in swing states, which is the most relevant for an election? I think you'd be right if the US had a one-person-one-vote system, but extra strength in California and New York isn't going to help as much as extra strength in Wisconsin, Arizona and Florida. Choosing a Cuban American woman from Florida (as an imaginary example) would pretty much solidify the general election for Biden, for example, while it's unclear what Sanders would add in important swing states. Sanders being on the ticket in the primaries didn't lead to a higher turn-out among young people in particular, why are we assuming that it would in the general election? Sure, I would like a progressive candidate as well, but I'm trying not to fall into the "I like it best, so it's automatically what's strategically best" fallacy that you see so often. Objectively speaking, Sanders and especially Warren did not add many new groups to the Democratic party, they did not increase turn-out among their base groups, they did not appeal enough to black americans, and they did not appeal to centrists at all. Is it still smart to add them to the ticket? The groups they should focus on is black people (turn-out), and suburban women (just like in 2018). What advantage does Sanders have with these groups? Actually, he has a disadvantage with them.

Also the primary electorate and the general election electorate are very different. Primary electorate skews very old (Bernie’s weakness) and general election has much higher youth turnout, always. It’s easier to register for general election bc primary elections have funky rules about when you can register, type of ballot you have to request, etc.

Biden shouldn't have promised a woc vice president. He is very limited now, and is likely to pull a Hillary 2.0 and pick someone who doesn't excite anyone outside of his pre-existing base.
