It never occurred to me people could take it the wrong way since this was obviously a tongue-in-cheek remark regarding the current news. I wouldn't have made this joke in another context. Given all the reactions I got, I must acknowledge I might have misjudged how some members could be affected by it. But I also think many misjudged the tone of my remark. The fact I couldn't possibly make this joke does say something of our times, though. Like I said, I know who I am and I know I didn't have bad intentions. If anything, my shade was directed towards the Chinese authorities rather than Chinese people - and I have to say I'm kinda glad I live in a country where people can hold their government accountable, and are allowed to lighten up some heavy situations... with jokes. Disclaimer before reading the rest, I'm just happy to see her perform, I myself am not pissy about what she's performing. BUT not everyone cares about whether or not she performs with Celine Dion or Barbara Streisand or Tony Bennett and "Legends" or what not. Majority of her fan base are still in their 20s and 30s, so it's normal for them to want music that caters to their generation. Gaga WAS primarily focused on electronic dance music, before she shifted and began focusing on covers of other people's hits and ballads. Barbara Streisand, for instance, is an acclaimed legend. But does the majority of our generation actively listen to Barbara Streisand? I too want Gaga to get the respect she deserves, but we can't necessarily forget the style of music she snagged everyone with in the first place lol But, like I said, I'm happy she's performing at all. I'm not familiar with the song before reading this thread, I listened, I personally had no feelings towards it, but others seem to love it so 🤷🏼♂️. I just hope she performs something a tad more upbeat after this. That's why some ppl complain about her not singing her new music, besides SL. If they knew the song, they'd know how iconic the performance will be. It's a classic masterpiece, very emotional and I love this kind of performances of Gaga, like when she sang Sound of Music or Imagine in Baku.
