I get that. But I'm trying to point out sometimes even to the best if their ability they don't have savings. Most landlords are everyday ppl too and get thrown into circumstances they didn't anticipate

That's especially true if they bought a property when they were better off. People financial circumstances can change a lot over time and a house is a long term investment

Just because they had the ability to be more "responsible" with it before doesn't mean that will be the case 8 or 10 years later

I'm just trying to see both sides here. I don't wanna see tenants just get thrown out I think that's gross

But the way some ppl stereotype landlords I think is also unfair but not surprisingly more tolerated given the modern attitudes

The best solution now is for the 3 main parties involved, tenants, landlords and banks to be willing to compromise and work together and a 4th component is whatever Governments can do to help

Pointing fingers on who is evil or responsible for the problems to me is just counter productive. Everyone is being affected to some degree or another

Throwing people out on the street during a pandemic is a sh*tty thing to do no matter the circumstances.

Y’all are making it look like I can’t look at different perspectives but you couldn’t be more wrong.

But during an emergency I care more about humanity.

I meant to say more than "one" perspective that was either a typo or autocorrect but I think u and him understood what I meant lol

Certainly did. I get both sides of the argument here!

Bottom line is to me: If you can help the situation and extend rent deadlines or defer please do. But things are OBVIOUSLY not that black/white and it isn't always completely in the landlord's control.

My favorite point you made was this one:

U can say the exact same thing about renters should have a little extra in case of emergencies so they can pay their rent what's the difference?

Yeah!

Tenants and landlords ARE in the same boat!

The gov SHOULD step in!

The point is, in the meantime, WHY act so cruelly and callously as you and the op examples???

The government should step in, and we agree about that. But instead of blame the government who is doing nothing, this entire thread is about blaming the landlords. Yes, these landlords could have used better words, but they are right: if you don't pay, if you don't have money, you can't stay in my house

Fine, then let the banks take over the property.  I'm sure a bank will understand more than a landlord.

Not all landlords are wealthy.

Some people rent their houses because they couldn’t sell them and had to move. Or they got married, remarried and had two homes. They still owe money every month on two homes.

There are lots of military families that buy a home in an area they want to retire to eventually, and rent it out while they are stationed in other places.

Many landlords aren’t making money off of rental properties. They are simply trying not to lose money or go bankrupt themselves.

I realize this. I have relatives who are retired and their income is their properties.

I feel as though everyone has valid opinions, but the anger is targeted at the wrong person.  Whether or not a landlord evicts you, chances are the bank owns the property and they'll have zero issues kicking you out.  Y'all need to call your congressman and DEMAND a mortgage freeze.

I'm re-quoting this, because more people are missing the point.

I never said otherwise. I told u I agree no one should be thrown out. I never disagreed with u on that :emma:

All I disagreed with is the language being used in this thread to describe landlords in general the the stereotypical attitude that they are all fine and to minimalize their problems.

Some could face foreclosures without rent if they can't get mortgage deferrals (hopefully they can)

That's all I was saying

These landlords are wrong Kicking people out of their apartment in the middle of a pademic is wrong why is it so hard for you to understand that people because of the corona virus cant go to work therefore dont make money are not able to pay rent also do you realize that when you kick them out nobody will take them in because of the fear of them having the virus you should be ashamed of yourself

Most problems in society and in economy aren't black and white and most ppl view them as black and white and take exclusive sides

Tbh I think that's a major setback in fixing issues and policy as best as possible because instead of co-operation, politics tends to be more one side against another side

Problems will never be resolved that way.

Society is made up of different classes of people, businesses etc. To be able to equalize disparities and inequalities (in a way that works and doesn't backfire) it's gotta have to co-operation

This anti-business hate the rich attitude is not an unexpected result of inequality we face but that attitude will bring us nowhere if those with that attitude get in power and just say F*CK you to big business and stuff and pertend we don't need them and that society can suddenly function without them

If there's an unfair imbalance (which there is) the solutions require change in policy to make things fairer for the average citizen and more redistribution... But going to the extreme of ignoring big business needs completely and ONLY looking at one perspective will backfire

I've heard a lot of comments of ppl who think all big businesses should not be included in Government help right now. As if big businesses automatically don't have needs as well and as if we won't suffer too if those big segments of economy are suddenly lost

So I'm very against black and white thinking for most issues. There's usually multiple sides that need to be taken into consideration. Looking at only 1 sides point of view and making it a war will never fix our issues.

As long as it's one side vs another, we will always have problems of one type of another :emma:

Reread my comment.

Some landlords are not making money off of their rental property, as much as they are just trying to break even.

Yep that's also true of a few that are just trying to make mortgage payments and maintenance (although that's still profit in a way cuz it's paying off an asset even if u don't have money left over after payments). But it also means if payments stop they may need a mortgage deferrals otherwise they may face foreclosure themselves

Point is landlords exact circumstances vary considerably from landlord to landlord. They can't all be lumped together into the same category of what their means is

Oh, yes, that is sometimes the case.

But in this thread I was referring to sh*tty landlords who would threaten to evict people during a pandemic.

Not all landlords.

Evictions need to be put on hold.

I agree, and most are. Most mortgage companies are delaying payments without it impacting your credit rating, so landlords should pass that along to their renters.

I believe the mortgage payment forgiveness will trickle down to renters. Who else are they going to get right now, anyway? It’s not like people are out looking to move up or moving around right now. College kids emptied out rental properties three months early. People don’t have money for security deposits, etc. It would be better to wait it out with the renters you already have, instead of taking a chance of having no one in your rental property.

You're really not getting the magnitude off the situation.

Your mind is stuck on "no money= get out my house" while neglecting that the other part of the equation -- "get out so someone else can come in and give me money"-- has been completely obliterated.

You're in Italy right?

No one new is coming to pay your mom, sis.  What will come from an eviction? You will still have no money coming in. That apartment will sit empty and you will be responsible for sending someone into the streets of Italy during a lockdown from a deadly highly contagious disease.

I have to ask, what the hell are you thinking?

Outside of an international crisis ,yes, landlords have a right to evict but how can you not see that it's not right to do such a cruel and usual thing to do to another human being right now??

If I were a landlord: what would the banks do to me? What can the banks possibly try to enforce when no one in the country (from landlords to corporations) has their money? You think the police are coming to drag people out their house right now? Like they have nothing better to do? Risk infection wrestling someone down your front steps?  Like they aren't busy begging the government for their own PPE? I assure you they are actively ignoring the BS of an eviction call right now. What? Their going to go physically pull someone out a house, into the street, just to find them dead in alley from virus and/or starvation in two weeks??

GTFOH!

Who are you to do that to someone and who are the banks to do that to you?!?

You don't get how wrongheaded you are. These op landlords don't get how wrong-headed they are.

The thread is about landlords who dont have the sense that there are more important things right now than money. These actions toward eviction are inhumane, futile and are making things worse in an already really really really sh*tty situation.
