Damn. In Ontario, evictions are disallowed at this time.

While mortgages still need to be paid (thereby requiring rent in most cases), it's still so cruel to evict someone right now

Get the pinot ready, because it's turtle time.

Suddenly my landlord's lack of common sense does not seem so aggravating. How can people be so cruel, at any time, but especially during a time like this :wtf: I certainly feel for those people who have mortgages to pay via renting but if you were able to buy a new home and rent out your old one, you certainly should have enough sense to have a "rainy day" fund.

I'm probably going to be in the minority in this, but I kinda feel bad for both sides.  I'm not sure how putting the burden on the landlord is any different than putting it on the tenant.  Especially for the small, independent landlords who aren't rolling to the bank.  On the other hand, I would try to work with tenants, but I wouldn't expect my landlord to eat the costs when I'm on his property.  Some of them did come off as rude and nasty... not gonna lie.  This country needs a rent AND a mortgage freeze to make this work for everyone and until they have the balls to do that, sh!t like this is going to continue.

Thankfully my parents aren't in crisis mode right now and we were able to pay our $1000 rent for april.. our lease is up in May since the landlords want to sell but my parents want to meet with them soon and discuss a rent to own situation..

Where is the problem? Of course, if you are on a rent, you have to pay  Just because there is a pandemic, it doesn't mean that now everything is free...

I have an experience on both sides: I'm on a rent, and I will pay next month regularly as always. Meanwhile, I'd expect the tenants that are renting my mother's house to do the same, otherwise I'll drag their ass out of that damn house ;) since my mom depends on that rent to pay her bills.

These people are not thinking. The equation has changed and it's feels too counterintuitive to switch gears from chasing the money to being humane.

"Evict people that can't pay me to get people who can pay me"

NO ONE can pay, SIR

NO ONE has income

NO ONE can give you more than my $0

NO ONE IS MOVING DURING A PANDEMIC

They need to kick these complaints up to the government, who can tell the banks to hold,  not punishing their tenants.

You're totally right.

There's a myth that all landlords are 'rich' and it's so far removed from the truth.

Someone in my family rents an apartment on the side and they make £30 a month after expenses.

In times like these, compromise is needed - and the governments should help.

But attacking landlords for needing rent is so wrong. If the rent isn't paid, in many cases, the house will be acquired by debt collectors and the tenants will have no house to stay in. It's a two way street.

So you will drag them out into the unsafe environment and be responsible if they get the disease and die?

WOW indeed

people are losing their jobs and dying, melissa. you shouldn't be able to evict people out of their homes.
