Seriously though, Britney was HUGE. Like one of the most famous people in the world and her album sales were crazy.

Things started going way south after she got with Kevin Federline. At least that's the way I remember it as a kid. I know more than that was going on.

No guys i do get it. But when i check the girls that were contemporary to her like Rihanna, Gwen, Nelly, Avril they seem more chill and lile the cool type while Britney just looks like this perfect cheerleader Barbie doll and i dont know how that could be cool, it or edgy. I do adore her and Toxic is the best song of ALL TIME, OF ALL TIME

Rihanna, Gwen, Nelly, and Avril were not Britney's contemporaries. Her "rivals" for the lack of a better word were Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson, Mandy Moore, probably a few other blondes I'm forgetting....during her most dominate eras.

Britney definitely was the perfect teen popstar when she came out. But I do recall the Oops video, and I'm a slave for you video being called "risque" back in the day...it was a different time

Yep, really her main competitor was Christina. Mandy and Jessica were on the sidelines. Not really in the game.

I remember buying the CD and casette tape on the release day. Me and my friends had to skipped class so we can got to nearby mall and get them from HMV. There were banners and life size cardboard of Britney in the store. It was a moment.

You have to go back like 98 thru 2003 years. Those were kind of her The Fame/Fame Monster years to give you a bit of perspective (though maybe not completely accurate).

It was like Gaga level impact with less controversy, less artistry , and the GP was actually in love with Brit.

She was under 20 and literally THE BIGGEST artist in the world.. Everything about her back then was so big and so legendary.. Everyone wanted to know where she is, what she's doing, who's with her, etc... It was such a crazy time. She was literally the most famous singer at the time.. Her sales were HUGE. Iconic. Truly iconic.
