Quartz 12,762
The list of nonessential medical services is being compiled because the number of patients with Coronavirus is exponentially increasing. As there is only a limited amount of resources, services that aren't absolutely needed will no longer be undertaken. While abortions may not seem like the most important medical procedure in the wake of a quickly disseminating and deadly virus, they can be urgent. Therefore, pro-choice advocacy groups have decried the motion to include abortions in this list. They claim that government officials are exploiting a national health crisis in order to further a political agenda that will have serious repercussions on women. https://scoop.upworthy.com/three-us-states-moved-to-limit-abortion-as-part-of-their-coronavirus-response-thats-wrong?fbclid=IwAR3mqGAVim6ioVHNFGOZ_92exMoILwDW0TdqM-nN21-AkDCatGZuunoDvmA -- What do you guys think? A lot of people are absolutely pissed about this. I personally don't think that it's that bad to limit abortions during this time (especially when the US hasn't peaked in number of COVID-19 cases yet). Am I wrong? Is it selfish to let people who want an abortion to not have them for a couple of months to save resources for the victims of COVID-19, or is it selfish to give them the right to have the abortion while COVID-19 patients suffer from the lack of resources? Inside, we are really made the same. 🕊

You realize you can't just get an abortion whenever during a pregnancy right? And we don't know how long CV will last, this is absolutely a way of ****ing with abortion rights during a crisis. darkchylde 14,857
i mean, lots of other procedures are being limited as well, but abortions are life-changing. it's complicated 'cause i believe they should still carry them on when needed but doing so puts women in a higher risk regarding the virus. For most of us, this will be mostly behind us in a year. For women who become pregnant and don't want to or can't afford to have children, this decision makes this pandemic impact the rest of their lifetime. And we should also consider how hard kids might have it growing up with parents who never wanted them or never planned on being a parent. PartySick 172,389
I mean...if they're contemplating universal DNR's, I don't see why non-essential (life threatening or rape induced) abortions wouldn't also be on the chopping block It depends though. It definitely shouldn't be lumped in with, like, plastic surgery or something. But if the choice is "have resources for an abortion" or "have resources to treat covid19 patients", I'm personally leaning towards the latter being more important. I'm super happy I don't have to make that choice though Whimsical bitch

If you're pregnant, welp you're gonna have a child. Inside, we are really made the same. 🕊

I mean, these people would kill to limit abortion rights so I'm sure they'd lie their way into banning nonessential ones until this pandemic is over. But then they'd conveniently forget to allow them again or something. Idk, pandemic treatment is more important but you're right, they don't really conflict with one another so this seems dumb.
