I assumed that because a jail is a closed system, that the chances for stuff like that to happen are slim. Thats all..

Thats all.. But prisoners do contact others by having visitors, and they have contact with guards who can get infected by the virus. Its beginning to spread in New York prisons and it will spread in hundreds a day as they are all isolated in one small area and overpopulated. Or if you only have a couple of days till your sentence ends. Or if you are extremely old and served for a long time. are the testing everyone in the prison before they are released? How do we know no one has it?

I honestly dont know, but according to the article, they are testing and some prisoners got it from visitors or guards. Which is why they want to release them before it starts spreading in prison. Im sure (or hope) they test them before they are released even if its not with the actual Carona test, but with looking at symptoms and temprature. Knowing what I know about the law systems in California at least a mess is incoming for sure. Half my family works in prisons I hear about everything that goes on i promise you they WILL cut corners and half ass this.

Anyway, what's with the passive aggression here - what, you think people who have been released will start running around and coughing on people out of spite for being imprisoned in the first place? Or they will just start 'exploring' the wondrous world they've been denied and not instead struggle with getting employment, integrating, as well as dealing with mental issues that often plague and isolate newly released convicts? OP: Blame my cynical view of US justice system, but if anything, they probably did that so they don't have to deal with as many people - if the freed inmates get the virus, it's no longer their problem, and in the long run I doubt this will lead to drastic changed being made to the way prison system works, and how prisons are encouraged to lock away more people for profit - I hope I'm wrong, cuz it's disgusting... It's a joke! When you give me that look, it's a joke!

Yeah none of these reforms being done are good intended, they are made because their money will be effected. All this could have been done before the crisis but they always said where do we get that money from?

They already started in California. Most of these people will struggle, they wont live life like you think they will.
