For Stirling Griff wants to take it all away!

Well not all, but enough.

https://soranews24.com/2020/02/28/australian-politician-calls-for-immediate-review-of-all-anime-due-to-depictions-of-child-abuse/

Essentially due to being an idiot, Stirling Griff has decided to bring all anime that is available in Australia (sold and streamed) will be brought under review.

This motion brought forth by him, will go under review Wednesday.

And with how politicians are idiots nowadays, it may pass.

Download your anime now Australians. And learn how to torrent.

I don’t see what is wrong with this to be honest. I’ve seen some anime/manga that is really explicit and depictions of child abuse should not be allowed.

One of my fav animes ever is Seraph of the End. At the beginning, yes, there is a lot of what one could call child abuse, by vampires.

But all of that is build up to, if I may say, one of the greatest love stories I have experienced.

There's a difference between "oh, this is too build up a character, and give them a backstory" and "I'm abusing children to be edgy and cool because I can".

Also, child abuse is ignored in Japan, so I think it's rather grand it's addressed in anime and manga. The mental healthcare system in Japan sucks so hard.

I doubt if they do this, it's going to be people watching every single episode of every anime available.

It's gonna be sweeping and swooping, and greats like Neon Genesis Evangelion and Puella Madoka Magica being swept under the rug.

To keep an old white man happy.

I'm just assuming he's old and white.

Fiction is fiction. No matter how it makes one feel it has value in society. Censoring cartoon depictions is not going to end child abuse nor will it prevent it from occurring frequently.

His speech about eromanga sensei had me dying, Its hilarious thinking that they are using tax dollars to watch goblin slayer, and eromanga :ladyhaha:

But in all seriousness, his party doesn't have the power to push this, unless it riles the others to bring it forward. Then will probably gain traction if that happens, but I doubt it.

Also what slightly annoys me is that he's nitpicking very few cases to review the overhaul classification for every anime, which I find pretty ignorant. They should be looking at their own classification system to consider them as adult content.

Not all anime is considered or made for children regardless of how they are presented or animated, some of them are CLEARLY meant for an older audience. Such as the other media that gets put out into the world.

Tbh the only grey zone I DO see is the whole "loli" culture. I have my gripes with it, also I understand it from the other side, I just feel like it kind of perpetuates the stigma of anime to others who are not familiar with it, and are outside the bubble.

That scene. In the convenience store?

Best love story ever. I cried. The creators consider Yuu x Mika canon I think.

But like that build up was perfect.

I don't know anything about Australian politics. So I just mostly agree with him being a flog.

But you're correct. This is a ridiculous endeavor. Many anime, even with kid protagonists are for adults.

And while the idea of young children in an adult world is very prevalent in anime and manga, it's not like Japan has the sole claim on that concept. Look at Pan's Labyrinth. That is a very horror film with a child as the main character.
