Just red an article about "When does the fan attitude become pathological?"

Some people here are clearly on phase 3:

If idolatry can promote the development of identity, it can also weaken it when it becomes excessive. Indeed, living through your idol, by proxy, risks leading to extreme behavior.
More precisely, by entering the world of his icon, the admirer persuades himself to be part of it and no longer has a healthy relationship with reality. Here, the real danger is that the fan no longer has enough perspective in front of his beloved star. In fact, this lack of distance risks leading him to identify completely with her, to be confused with her. This is for example the case of the fan-look-alikes, totally devoted to the life of their idol, to the point of subtracting their own personality from that of the person they admire.

In even more serious cases (but also rarer), idolatry can turn to passionate delirium, that is to say to erotomania. This mental pathology is part of paranoid disorders. It is characterized by the illusion of being loved by a person, generally inaccessible. The erotomaniac stalker is convinced that his idol loves him with enthusiasm and would demonstrate it if external factors did not prevent him. More specifically, this disease progresses in three phases:

Phase 1: the phase of hope. The erotomaniac hopes that the person he admires will declare his love to him. He will therefore try to get in touch with her by phoning her, sending her emails, gifts, etc. He wants to know the details of his life and to this end, he will monitor and follow her. This phase can sometimes be accompanied by verbal hallucinations: the erotomaniac individual thinks he hears his idol speaking to him through the radio; and delusions of interpretation: the patient interprets each word or gesture of his beloved star as a mark of love.

Phase 2: the despair phase. This phase is characterized by increased paranoia. The erotomaniac imagines that his idol is prevented from responding to him and from showing him his love. After a period of vain hope and faced with the indifference of his favorite celebrity, the patient sees his pride injured and risks sinking into depression, sometimes leading him to suicide. This is for example the case of an admirer of Björk who, disappointed by the different idylls of the singer, filmed his own suicide.

Phase 3: the anger phase. The erotomaniac is furious at the lack of interest of his idol for their idyllic relationship which he so much hoped to establish. He then becomes aggressive and intensifies his harassment. To take revenge, he will intimidate, even terrorize his victim, even going so far as to attempt to kill her. This is the case, for example, of a fan of Mylène Farmer who, disappointed not to have had an answer to his numerous letters, tried to shoot him down with a gunshot in his record company.

Well a lot of her fans have been trashing her for years. From C2C to her Enigma Vegas shows...it's like she can't do anything right in their eyes. I mean, Stupid Love debuted at #5 but her fans still consider that a flop. If she stopped caring about her fans, I wouldn't even be surprised. But that's not the case cuz she clearly just wanted the album to have a proper era. If she released the album on the 10th, her fans will still have something to complain about, especially the sales and its chart performance. 

Chart performance is the last of my issues at the moment, trust me. I just want the music. It would be fine by me if she literally said: "My album is supposed to drop today but because of what's going on in the world i'm not feeling down to promoting it here's the link there u go enjoy".

@TheJoanneHat if you're that upset about fan reactions then don't come here anymore I guess   Gaga delayed the album and fans have every right to be upset, there's nothing more annoying than fans condescendingly dragging other fans for being upset. Not saying some of the stuff people say is okay but still. 

Besides, tensions seem to finally be dropping down, there's no need for that kind of energy

I think that's the gist of it.  I've seen every melt down since right before ARTPOP started, some of the things... she kinda deserved (cancelled music videos/changing singles lol Venus).  This one I felt was the most harsh.  Is anyone honestly surprised tho?  It's not like this delay came out of no where.  The people just outright calling her "selfish" and "greedy" make my blood boil, and I feel bad for Gaga on a personal level.  IT'S OK TO BE UPSET, but there's a fine line you shouldn't cross where you come off as entitled and downright assholish.  I'm not upset people are upset... but how they're projecting it makes me want many people to just grow the f*ck up.  Which surprises me since Gaga's been in the spotlight for 12 years.....

I like coming on here sometimes, but as soon as there's literally any type of announcement by Gaga, it becomes the most toxic of places. Which seems ironic considering this is a website dedicated to her lol.

Why is so hard for her to let her art speak for itself? It's not like she's gonna be out and about. From what she told us, this album is about love, union and feeling good. The album is very needed at the moment.
