Why was dope even on ARTPOP

Her label didn't let her put the original version on the album because they felt a ballad about her fans didn't fit for what they wanted. They wanted a more "adele" type of ballad to release as a single. So she made it VERY raw and emotional and very hard to listen to to f*CK over her label. Also it's a really good song and you clearly lack taste. :fan: You could ask this dumb question about any song you don't like on any album but it's clear you failed to realize what the album is even about and the message she was sending.

The question is, why do you have no taste?

This kind of mentality is so fkn dumb ew. Having no taste or 'Bad taste' is very much subjective and entirely dependent upon the culture and expectations of the society that the person belongs to.

What one social group finds unappealing, uncouth, or even evil might be normal or strongly appealing to another. "Bad taste" is just a put-down that means "unpopular opinion". Ur dumb.

This isn't even about social groups, it's about the individual person. Tastes will vary person to person within any group. And I don't think (or I hope) anyone is being serious when they use the lack of taste argument.

Here you're just trying to pull a miraculous mental process of weaving intricate threads of reasoning in forced complex, tangential, and often contradictory ways to give your mental gymnastic gimmick,  the illusion that it has resolved the cognitive dissonance stemming from objective facts debunking the  firmly held beliefs, thereby allowing your gimmick to continue on with life still holding onto the flawed beliefs while still acknowledging the objective facts. Please go beg for validation elsewhere.

LMAO did you just drop a thesaurus on your keyboard? You went way off for literally no reason, I just pointed out that taste is more of an individual thing rather than a group thing.

What does this have to do with validation or anything else you said?

Lmao I'm genuinely stunned at your bizarre response.

Username checks out. Get some sleep luv.

I know that, I hope you were only directing that to the other 'lovely' member you quoted :enigma:

I think ARTPOP was the label/the industry's way of getting Gaga back in line. That, to this day, DWUW is blamed on her making poor decisions, being under the influence of drugs/alcohol, and 'lashing out' because of repressed feelings kind of says all that has to be said about what went down and why a song like 'Dope' made it into the album as a piece of evidence that she was unstable during this timeframe. Gaga's team could have used performances, visuals, and promo to focus on the original intent of DWUW rather than exacerbate the issue with hypersexuality.

Regardless of which songs you prefer sonically, it's obvious her original message was messed with:

1. Do What U Want (solo):

"My bones hurt from all the shows; but I don't feel the pain, 'cause I'm a pro
I, I sink in; then I'm okay... 'cause my body belongs to you when I'm on stage"

Replaced by the following chorus, written and sung by an alleged sexual predator at the time, that changed the song's primary message of telling the music industry it could do what it wanted with her body, to a song about submissive/borderline non-consensual sex:

"Early morning, longer nights; Tom Ford, private flights (Yeah). Crazy schedule, fast life; I wouldn't trade it in, 'cause it's our life. I could be the drink in your cup, I could be the green in your blunt, your pusher man... ...you're the Marilyn, I'm the president; And I love to hear you sing (Girl)"

2. MANiCURE (demo):

"Makin' bank as Pop's Wife (I quit!)"

Entire intro and bridge taken out, stripping it of the same kind of "music not the bling"-esque message of 'ARTPOP.' Regardless of whether it was done tongue-in-cheek, the lyric above is pretty matter-of-fact.

3. I Wanna Be With You (demo):

" I'd rather be poor and happy than rich and alone. I'll write hit songs about you, No matter how, we'll get through. I'll keep on singing for a living, But I wanna be in love. And I wanna be with you."

Replaced by 'Dope,' which while dark in its lyrical content, is removed from being a ballad to her fans about the things she wants 'on the other side' of fame, but that she has to keep on singing for a living.

Instead, with 'Dope,' we get a narrative of Lady Gaga being abusive of drugs and alcohol, perhaps planting a seed at the very least that her calls for help in the songs above (and prior, with ones like 'Living on the Radio' and 'Princess Die' that never made it to release) were under the influence.

I don’t know why everyone is hating on Dope. I found it extremely personal and therapeutic. The only songs I don’t really vibe with now are Jewels and Drugs/G.U.Y/Manicure. G.U.Y was on repeat for a long time, I just don’t really resonate with it anymore. Manicure was always super aggressive to me though.
