Mariano 958
3 hours ago, PartySick said: He lost me with the "solar requires a backup source" lie. The sun doesn't stop providing energy when it's cloudy and you can store excess energy. Idk how widespread it is but here in Florida you can actually sell excess energy to FPL (Florida Power and Light) to save on your light bill. Then they can redistribute that across the grid. It's a fair point that Bernie's goals are a bit "run before you can crawl" but my two counter points would be 1) climate change is an emergency and requires immediate and drastic action. And 2) out of any viable candidate, Bernie's the best choice to get us on the right track, even if he doesn't hit his goals. Edit: omg I've been absent from GGD for so long that I forgot that the emoji was renamed to applause And i was looking for it with "clap" and I was like wtf? ItsTommyBitch 12,640
We're still posting CNN for valid perspectives? Even if you don't think he will succeed in all of his ideas, you've not grappled with the fact that his ideas are the best, the most endorsed by climate scientists as being on the scope necessary to address the problem, etc. If you want basic change that doesn't meet the level of the problem specifically to maintain the power and wealth or corporations who are screaming bloody murder in exchange for the planet getting worse, thats on you sis, but there's a reason the centrists aren't endorsing the GND or anything near it and its not because there's a scientific consensus on it being an ineffective means of addressing the problem. "Pragmatism" is a stand in for Corporatism. 私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから

And the rising temperature must be the sun hugging us closer Except the fires in Brazil were man-made and followed the same burning path that farmers have used for decades. According to the infrared readings and scale recorded the Brazil fires of 2019 were not at all the worst recorded. As for right wing talking points .. Um...in regards to the Australian fires : ”New South Wales police reported on Jan. 6 that it has taken "legal action" against 183 people for bushfire-related offenses since Nov. 8. But that number includes 24 people charged with deliberately setting bushfires, 53 people cited for allegedly failing to comply with a total fire ban and 47 people cited for allegedly discarding a lighted cigarette or match on land. Not all of these people were arrested, as the Starnes article claims.” Furthermore this article points to a 2015 study of satellite images that highlights 40% of brush fires are man made, while another 47% are accidental ( https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.smh.com.au/national/arson-mischief-and-recklessness-87-per-cent-of-fires-are-man-made-20191117-p53bcl.html) If climate change was the SOLE (not ruling climate out) factor in the Oz fires would have been increasing in severity but if I remember correctly, up until 2019 I believe the worst fire on record was either in 1939 or 1975

Trust me, the coal miners won't say "at least I have a terrible job" when crops have withered from drought, cities have flooded, and half the world is caught in flash freezes while the other is on fire. So who’s paying for solar planes. Solar trains. All of the new solar cars. Solar ships. Solar homes. All of the new solar grids that must now replace current city and twin grids. Who is going to pay for this ? It’s not a matter of will but a matter of how ?

JusKeepBreathin 19,311
I'm over the politicization of climate change. It's clearly divisive and stupid. Telsa has the best selling luxury car in the U.S. Do you think it's because the luxury car market cares about electric cars? They put out an incredible product. They reinvented what luxury means. They streamed line it from button and knobs to one huge center touch screen display. Then they decided to make a version that is more attainable for a midsized car market. Just like the iPhone did. If you want solar panels, buy them and install them on your roof. As soon as electrical companies see a decline in profits the will assimilate or go bankrupt. Don't assume any politician is going to do the work of saving the planet for you. Bernie will not be able to pass anything through the Senate. Don't assume any politician is going to do the work of saving the planet for you. Bernie will not be able to pass anything through the Senate. Honestly THE WISEST thing said here ! It all starts with us - charity, eco-friendly habits etc. We’ve beget and air of sloth because all our generation seems to think is the only way to action is who you vote for. I can without a doubt say here that the people hysterical about climate change here aren’t actually involved. My boyfriend runs an eco-friendly business that cells reusable ceramic, bamboo, and silicone products, and he caters developing raw-vegan desserts and mylks. He works with local farmers and artists, and has started growing his own food and expanding his philoposhy to the local area and some NYC events. And together we try our best to do for ourselves and the community. I myself have for the most part given up fast fashion and I now only do consignment (Grailed and the Real Real) because I don’t agree with the ecological and humanitarian habits of fast fashion brands. I’ve also changed the usage of habits of the company I work for swapping in biodegrable straws and glass cups. It’s honestly not much but it’s an example of being the change you’d like to see. I’m not going to sit her and talk politics and then not take my own action. the power is with the people - so use your power and start doing as opposed to waiting for some old white man to tell you DO IT OR BE ARRESTED
