If by hydel u mean hydro that's the 2nd biggest source of electricity in my Province (Ontario) after Nuclear

For us it works cuz we have tones of water and rivers...

Solar sucks in the winter cuz we have short sunlight days and wind is not consistently abundant all the time here...

I think Scandinavian Countries and other North Europe Countries like Netherlands and Denmark rely a lot more on wind than solar because their costs have consistent wind but they too have short sunlight hours in winter

They are fine to have in the mix but it would be hard to rely on them very very significantly. For us Hydro just works better

Yep I meant hydro they are actually synonyms. :D

Yep I agree environmental factor is a huge component in tapping any renewable energy source.

In India they have this huge proposal to turn their whole desert region into a solar farm and I guess that taking from that similarly could be implemented in arid regions everywhere, all over the world.  The huge problem is storing it.

Oh so the media is advocating for incremental changes that “can actually be done” but they know won’t actually be done. Got it, thanks. As if I haven’t heard this story my whole damn life.

The only thing that is going to address climate change now is radical change and the media is really the biggest thing in the way of that.

They have gotten done tho. Renewables and changes in electric grid have been getting done

But u are 100% correct it's not enough and I actually agree with u change needs to be radical

But ur claim that incremental change isn't being done is not exactly true

Do u know how much energy used to come just from coal (by far the most toxic of the fossil fuels) vs now? Or the rate of renewable increases year over year?

Things are not being done fast enough as u say but they are also not frozen either as u suggest

Well, then he should tell people that there will be times when they wont have electricity.:trollga:

This shows how little you know and understand about the actual science lmao. Do your research before making baseless threads

Yeah. There's climates that are just perfect for solar

Arizona for example that not only has mostly sunny days but also the longer average days...

Saudi Arabia has plans to make tones of solar to make electricity as an export in anticipation oil won't be big business forever

You have to know your area best and what renewables are.most compatible with your geographical area. In my area Hydro happens to be the best

I wouldn't want too much intermittency. I get that storage can help level that out but if you have to rely on storage TOO much not only would that raise cost a bit but batteries have their own environmental impacts so u don't wanna have to have giant storage all over the place :emma:

In our case Nuclear is huge. 51% of our power generated. That figure was from years ago tho it may have changed so I'll have to search it up again but at least our emissions are almost 0

Between Nuclear, Hydro, a little bit of solar and wind the only pollution we create from electricity is a little bit from natural gas (I think 20 something percent)... Now we just need more electric cars cuz my Province still only has 3% of new sales being EVs :emma:

Back to electricity. I have high hopes for fusion one day :diane:

Also I heard there's a new type of solar that can create or make hydrogen???? I dunno a lot about it... But if it's true... That would help the intermittent issues with solar I'm areas where sunlights are lower cuz hydrogen literally is a form of energy u can store without needing battery storage

It could even be used for cars one day (which some argue is even better than electric cars)

Unlimited Energy that's the dream

You meant cars with fuel cells right? Hydrogen powered with water expulsion.  Yep scientifically its significantly better than electric since battery production takes a toll on the enviorment

Yeah fusion could change the world if the process is perfected enough for the energy output to consistently surpass what needs to be put in

And yeah the fuel cells cars. These cars have the 0 emissions benefits if an electric car with the instant refueling of an ICE gasoline vehicle. And without the battery waste challanges.

But I also mean that if we can extract hydrogen from solar we may even be able to fill hydrogen cars without water. Just pure hydrogen. Maybe not need the current fuel cells? I dunno just an idea

Of course the design would have to change a bit but yeah. Imagine storing hydrogen power extracted from solar

Yep solved the whole worlds energy problems in this thread

Nailed it

Here's to us

Thanks I read

Yikes those taxes are really high. By value added consumption tax I assume like a sales tax? 42% is really high :omg:

There must be a way to reshuffle stuff to not have to raise taxes across the board (including Corporate taxes) so high.

Single payer would definitely help this. Privatization takes way profit margins in healthcare industry that just balloon costs.

If there's one thing I agree with Bernie strongly it's the Universal HealthCare approach

Tbh we are just so tired of this system. Last year I had to spend a lot of money on lab tests and doctor visits even with insurance. It SUCKS.

Many people feel we need some drastic overhaul.

I’m talking about the broader picture of when we, as a society, first found out about climate change and today.

The world did essentially nothing about it for the first couple of decades and treated it as a joke for about another decade.

All this waiting and debating has left us in a time where, yes, some regions have taken it seriously and have made gains in the alternative energy sector, but we are still subsidizing fossil fuels. Deforestation is still rampant. Nothing is fundamentally changing about the way we live on a macro scale.

Policy has not changed. Even a carbon tax is controversial to US policy makers. So, YES, there is stagnation.

The US still subsidises fossil fuels? :wtfga:

But anyway I just meant it sounded like u were saying nothing has been done which I think is a bit misleading regardless of the truth that what has been done is no where near enough

Yeah the US healthcare system makes very little sense and is super inneficient

Considering u spend twice per capita as a typical developed nation, u could literally have a Universal HealthCare system of much better quality than other nations for the same cost

Or have the same quality as other nations with a bit more waiting for half the cost

Or somewhere in between. A little cheaper than twice the cost and still better than other nations

US doctors do make a lot but even factoring that in the system is expensive

Doctors here in Canada typically make $90,000 to $130,000 a year (depending on hours worked, exact field and which province they work in). That seems to be enough salary to get doctors tbh

Private sector ones like Dentists and eye doctors make more tho :emma:

There's a strong unscientific mentality in this comment :rip:

1) protesting and activism have never worked ever apparently? Good to know

2) Rational people came up with plans and solutions a while ago. It's our corrupt government (and global economy) that hasnt implemented them yet

3) Climate Change is cyclical, but also man-made in this case and exacerbated to an extreme. We can mitigate the damage, so we should, obviously. To not do so would be immoral (and just stupid) in my mind.

4) Who said we're living in a panic state just because we want to do something about it as quickly as possible? :duck: If anything, the average person SHOULD be more panicked or at least cognizant of the damage potential, but this isn't the case currently. Hundreds of Millions of Americans are surely living their daily lives mostly not thinking about climate change constantly because they have things like working multiple jobs at low pay to think about :deadbanana:

I never said that... in fact... this is how the people can voice their concerns in a civil manner …

"Making" politicians do anything is a misguided and dangerous notion ...

like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still. My words give a clue, look inside to see whats true
