I think people predicted either a Biden/Harris or Kamala-Joe-Bernie top 3 candidate race for months and months, so this is unsurprising.

It's a good move in some respects - What other prominent woman and person of color has a national spotlight in the last year where people already know who she is and has the ability to convince people that don't like Joe that he'll be okay in the WH. (Stacey Abrams gets floated, but I think shes vastly overrated and severely UNDERvetted for a general election... and Liberals are absolutely wrong to assume that putting a black woman on the ticket means you don't have to earn the support and respect of the black community, women in general, and esp. that of black women who in many ways are the most reliable backbone of the democratic party in terms of their dedicated support of candidates... let alone young people who support representation)

Kamala's not *loved* by the black community for "somewhat" fair reasons in the way that Obama ended up being re: her prosecutorial history... but she would be an *emblem* of progress for good old Joe. Not a progressive reach out, but just a symbol. I thought, if Joe wins with her as his running mate, she's going to run in 2024 and win after continuing to build bridges with progressives and the black community and make up for her record over 4 years

I really, really, wanted Kamala to be a breakout star. When she said she supported Medicare for All even when it abolished private insurance and it seemed like she was going to run as a Progressive with Bernie/Warren, WHEW. My basement was FLOODED

But then the establishment camp reigned her in :rip:

Also, its a kii that some of her support comes from her casting herself as an anti-Joe Biden who was harmed by his legislative history, but that is how establishment political "compromise" works so :emma:

Nina Turner would be the only right choice. A REAL progressive black woman.

Are you trying to win an election or make a point? That ticket would lose.

I hope this thread isn't too old to bump cuz I'm just seeing this for the first time.

I've been sort of floating the Biden-Harris trial balloon with every moderate (not just Democrats but also Republicans and independents) I talk to. I like the ticket, but there's not a lot of love for Harris right now. I think people think she's too much of a flip-flopper (ItsTommyBitch mentioned the Medicare For All issue, for example) and I'm also hearing a lot about her running away from her record as CA attorney general - they'd rather her own it, the good and the bad. I've also had it pointed out that the African-American community doesn't necessarily see her as black, which is something I can't even begin to comment on - but it's been said.

So again, I like the idea of the ticket myself, but I don't think it's a sure bet for the general. I think Biden would have a lot of good people to choose from.

And if Sanders actually picked Nina Turner... I would have to question his judgment on that one. But I recognize there are very few people with actual governing experience who would be a good fit for the VP slot policy-wise, so I guess there aren't a lot of people to choose from?
