I mean there are so many illnesses out there, that need to be treated differently I could never trust someone with that who isn’t an expert on the field. ⟡ ⋆ ˚。⋆🦢⋆ ˚。⋆⟡

Gaga said that if your family doctor is prescribing you antidepressants that it should not be happening because they are not the specialists in the field. It should be phychiatrists He hit back saying general practitioners have some training in the area and only refer when it gets more complicated or a more severe case they can't handle... Or that in some cases accessibility is an issue because there's not enough phychiatrists for everyone or some people can't afford one

He doesn t know **** Not sure if you have had experiences for getting mental health care. In my experience you have to be a complicated case to get referred to a psychiatrist. I live in a country where general practitioning doctors either give you a referal for mental health care through a psychologist/professional in the field of mental health affiliated with the GP in question. They will help diagnose, and the doctor will prescribe any anti depressive medication or other neurotic medication if needed. Any overly complicated mental condition is usually handled by psychiatrists (think combinations of schizophrenia, psychoses, MPD, Megalomania, etc). So he's not far off really. And each country has a different standard for what a doctor can or cannot do. I know the US has usually pretty broadly educated doctors and nurses, compared to some other countries. TSUNAMI 21,297
Dr. Mike - take a freaking seat. If you're not a psychiatrist you shouldn't be prescribing any medications. Would you like to be operated by pediatric doc instead of the surgeon? NO! US needs better healthcare system. More solidarity. 13 hours ago, Economy said: Gaga said that if your family doctor is prescribing you antidepressants that it should not be happening because they are not the specialists in the field. It should be phychiatrists Correct! Family doctor can send you to the exam. Family doctors should act like a triage. Period. They have vague knowledge about everything, enough for them to determine to which exams should patients be sent and later on, after exams the specialist doctor (for the field) can prescribe the medications. Dr. Mike is as good doctor as is Dr. Phil. Cash me outside how bout dat?
Emvee 8,845
I never thought that the idea of seeking a psychiatrist for your psychiatric needs would be this controversial Lol
Jollibee 3,179
Of course they will side with Dr. Mike since Gaga said something against Family Doctors about mental health. I would be surprised if they did not. American Academy of Family Physicians

American Academy of Family Physicians I had to look them up because there’s an organization that had a name that sounds good but they base all their work on oppressing gay and trans people Edit: found the other organization I was talking about https://www.splcenter.org/fighting-hate/extremist-files/group/american-college-pediatricians

Issue is there aren't enough specialists to deal with everything Mental health in particular has surging demand and some in the US can't even afford them. If fam doctors are supposed to not get involved, some people aren't getting treatment period U should think about all angles and factors at play before telling doctors to take a seat Plain and simple. For some people it's going to be primary practitioner, or nothing at all
RadioIsOurs 13,876
Does it really matter though? If Gaga can maybe learn something from this, and maybe the public can also learn something more about mental health and take part in the discussion around it, isn't that a good thing?
