She’s not a gay icon but I do thank her for her slacktivism this past year I guess. However, she only started being like this after it was put into question whether she voted republican, and most people thought she did so it was more of a PR thing at the time I feel.

Truly an LGBTQ ally queen getting the recognition she deserves. So many years fighting with us on this road.

I mean, she clearly doesn't deserve this award since she did absolutely nothing for the LGBT community apart from releasing that cringy video. However, considering that GLAAD decided to award Beyonce and Jay-Z, out of all people,  I will not be shocked if Eminem will be named the next gay icon in 2021.

It feels like they're just awarding her because she mentioned them in the song and she's one of the biggest names who featured the LGBT community in a recent video. It just seems a very commercial choice that takes down their credibility. Taylor only started being pro-LGBT a matter of months ago and it would be better to see it go to someone who's made thehier a stance a bit clearer for longer. ToddintheShadows said it best: "It is 2019. Most of her peers were out on the front lines long before this. And even football teams do Pride events now. She has nothing to lose and everything to gain by speaking up now, so if people are suspicious of her motives, I don't blame them. You can hardly call this a brave stance."

Idk honestly... I think there are people that deserve that award by far. But you know the award scene is what it is and Taylor is the figure to be recognize lately. Good for her. And maybe in the future she will be able to work and show that she is more deserving of such recognition. She showed  a bit with that video and her lately political and social opinions so hope that she will continue to do more.

This was my thought too at first. But they awarded Bey and Jay last year too so. Not surprised.

Does it matter? Damage is done

This is will be seen as controversial for sure, but she has done a lot for the community as of late (petition for gay rights, YNTCD video)

The GLAAD Vanguard Award is a special GLAAD Media Award presented annually by the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation at the GLAAD Media Awards ceremony held in Los Angeles. It is presented to a member of the entertainment community who does not identify as LGBT but who has made a significant difference in promoting equal rights for LGBT people.

Corporate gay organization gives corporate gay pr queen a prize. a headline.

Jokes aside, I don't think they know what the word vanguard means if they're giving this to her lol She hopped on the queer money gravy train when that pot was hot and took seconds. That's not to say that what she did wasn't helpful of beneficial, but I sincerely cannot think of one thing that she did beyond this last year for the queer community. I would think vanguard is an award given to someone with a legacy in something in this case queer activism, something she absolutely has *avoided* doing before this era. This is also a celebrity prize so it isn't like they'd give it to someone who might be more deserving but less famous.
