This is basically why I've switched over to Bernie. I love Warren a lot, I think she's got a great personality and a great message with a lot of good plans, but at this point, this is strictly between Biden and Sanders. Unless something drastic and extreme happens to Biden or Sanders, Warren just can't get the nomination at the rate she's been going. She had very strong momentum like a couple of months ago, but that's basically died down.

Yup. I think she’s great and I would be switching to her if the case were reversed but it’s not. Convince people in your lives who may not be as informed as you guys that Bernie is the only way to go to avoid the disaster that a Biden nomination would be.

Okay...but computer science is notoriously a difficult and competitive subject in school. So while it is all relative, don’t try and downplay how difficult some jobs are. I’m not going here touting “Oh, there are sensitive doctors out there who think their profession is super hard”.

Also yeah, CS in university is different from the real world, but if you want to use your logic, then that’s the same for every job and major. At the very least while my experience is limited, it’s more than you can say.

I don't care how hard people find it. Saying no one cares is not the same thing as downplaying the difficulty. It's also not downplaying it's difficulty saying you are sensitive if this remark upsets you.

It's silly to be upset that someone else suggested that a coal miner could be a programmer (many of them could, if only they tried). And many of them could be physicians too if they had the time. What you consider hard, some of them may not. It's honestly kind of an elitist attitude to be offended at the idea of a coal miner becoming a programmer.

Sure, they could become programmers, and physicians, and anything they want if they had the time, money, and resources. Anyone could. That’s not a revelation of any kind.

And again, difficulty in subject matter is relative, but it’s just a fact that it’s a competitive and difficult subject to learn. That’s what I’m saying. And quite frankly, saying that no one cares if it’s difficult IS downplaying the profession. I also would be saying this about any other profession, not just coding and programming. Sure, I have a personal connection to it, but I’m by no means “offended” by this. All I’m saying is that just “picking up coding” is not as easy as Biden made it out to be.

I'm fully aware it's the tone people are "taking issue" with.

But let's be honest with ourselves, no one seriously thinks all coal miners are going to become programmers. The people taking issue with this are either going to be coal miners (who won't vote democrat anyways because they hate voting in their own favor), sensitive programmers who think their profession is super hard (and are definitely voting Warren or Bernie anyways), and democrats who already hate Biden.

One of the reasons people get fed up with democrats is because they constantly make a big deal out of nothing. And this is the definition of nothing.

... No? Your assertions are not us "being honest with ourselves", thats just you. This is the definition of Joe Biden continuing to alienate the bases he should be trying to energize and rally around him because of his own ignorance. It does not matter if he *actually* thinks coal miners will become programmers, what matters is that you shouldn't piss off people who you want to vote for you. The people who would take issue with this will be coal miners in rural states when the GOP runs gratuitous attack ads against Joe Biden saying he's bad for jobs and doesn't understand people like coal miners. They'll say Trump kept the coal mining jobs, Joe Biden thinks they should all quit and become programmers. Is it exactly what he meant? No. Does it matter? No :rip:

Democrats do make big deals out of nothing often, but they also don't make big enough deals out of things that hurt them politically - things like this. It's a two-fold problem.

And that's why the only people who are calling this out are progressives - neoliberals should care about these incidents if they want Joe to be a successful nominee if he wins, but they don't, and it's only hurting them :deadbanana:  These are all just evidence that other candidates (mostly Bernie) would be better in the general, he doesn't have this kind of damaging baggage, he increases voter turn out, he has energy, excitement, and a real vision for the future. We point these things out to show to people who care about winning beyond just for the sake of winning that its a losing bet to place their money on Joe.

These things don't get press because MSM wants to insolate Joe Biden from attacks as much as possible, not because people don't care. Why isn't Joe Biden verbally attacking people at his own rallies, saying shitty things by any Democratic standard, making promises to donors etc. all over the news? Do regular people know about it? Even modestly politically engaged ones? I would bet they don't.

Democrats should want a strongly vetted and competent nominee, not one who skirts by on name recognition. If they were smart, they wouldn't use kid gloves with him now and place all of their bets on him just managing to weather the huge incoming storms in the general - storms that they could be helping to fight before they get bad. With this approach, if he wins the nomination and goes on to lose the general, they'll throw their hands up and say "What happened!?!? Centrism, lost!? For the first time ever!? Must have been Russia!" :smh:

Most communities with coal mines are small areas don't even have tech jobs

The idea that u can simply switch careers like nothing :toofunny:

Many small towns are dependent on coal mining for their economy.....but coal needs to be used less and less for electricity  .    It's a tough decision for legislators

Agreed. The planets climate and future is way more important than jobs of a few communities jobs

I'm just saying tho that Biden is oversimplifying this as many politicians do as well
