Dem insiders: Bernie could win nomination

Bernie is falsely labeled a socialist which is why he is seen as too far left and Republicans dont like him. But Bernie does not support Democratic policies, he supports policies majority of Americans want and that is his focus. When he is allowed to speak to Republicans and have a open fair discussion, republicans always love him.

That depends on your definition of socialist... Very very few politicians in the developed world actually favour policies that are actually what the technical definition of socialism is

But many ppl use the word socialism simply to refer to bigger Government spending and taxes, more regulation etc and that's what they are refering to and Bernie is exactly that

Regardless of whether or not the label is technically correct by definition isn't the main point.... He is more or less what people think he is

Wbk :emma: MSM is in a conundrum right now, they don't want to acknowledge him because trying to paint him as a cranky old socialist whose been shouting in the clouds for 40 years about income inequality generally seems to help him appear authentic and passionate rather than crazy for most people. The more young people and independents and even republicans see him, the more they agree with him and the more inaccurate polling that caters heavily towards older people becomes :fan: It's really a trap of their own creation: The people who hate him now have hated him since 2016 pretty much,  like he is not going to become more unfavorable and in fact his favorables are at the highest of the entire bunch at the moment. But, they can't continue to just ignore him either.

If he wins Iowa or New Hampshire and goes on to win Nevada or even come 2nd in Nevada/South Carolina - it will be impossible to ignore him, they can say he's in 3rd or 4th when he's in second in polling, and they can lie and say he's the white person's candidate, but they can't say he didn't win when he did :laughga: And that momentum could carry him to victory in California, a close 2nd in Texas, and even more along the way outside of the south which would go to Joe. He could literally end up with more delegates than Joe Biden even if he loses Iowa if he plays things right.

And then its a matter of  -does the MSM want to throw their support behind the populist Underdog because it would be profitable, just like it was to cover Trump even though the establishment had thrown their money to Jeb Bush, Cruz, and somewhat Marco Rubio? I would put money on Capitalism winning in that fight, even against establishment politics.

It really seems like all the "insiders" very much hate Joe and don't want him to win because they think he'll lose to Trump, which is cool kind of? It's nice that people on the left and the center-left outside of washington punditry acknowledge that Joe is a particularly bad candidate against Trump. But then again Obama is telling people they gotta support Warren if she wins even as she is declining, which really makes me wonder if we'll be looking at another pro-warren glow-up coverage and more center shifting in her policies and rhetoric in the upcoming month into Iowa and New Hampshire

When I explain to people how its not socialism, they always agree with me and are surprised.

1) Social programs already exist and supported by Republicans, Bernie just wants to add one extra social program. That does not make him a Socialist.

2) Government supports Socialism for the rich, like how Amazon doesnt pay taxes, and bailing out Wall Street. Bernie wants to end socialist programs for the rich, and spend that money on the American people.

3) During Bush presidency, the Military budget was under 500 billion, today its over 700 billion. Bernie wants to lower the military budget and put that money on the needs of the American people.

4) Lastly, explain to them how government will spend less money than it is today if they have Medicare For All.

I don't understand Warren strategy in the past 2 months. Maybe she gave up and  made a deal to be VP.

It was obvious from the start, I knew she would change her position and not really fight for what she claimed to support. Shes exactly like Obama, runs on being a progressive, but is actually a republican. Shes also a huge fan of Hilary and calls her for advice, she supported her over Bernie.

Because it's not one demographic of people that put someone in office, it's a collective group of supporters and centrists.

A lot of Bernie's supporters are"moderates/centrists" and Independents though? Like he had more Independent support in 2016 than Hillary and Trump  There are even Republicans who like him as a figure more than they like any other Democratic Candidate, even when they disagree with some policies of his :emma:

Obama is not a centrist, there is nothing centrist about him. Obama is a Corporate Neoliberal which basically a moderate republican.

Obama was no Bernie Sanders but wanting things like gun control laws, wanting to raise top income bracket, not passing approval for keystone pipeline creating Obama care...

Those things don't sound Republican at all

Just because he's not among the most progressive left leaning Democrats doesn't mean labeling him as a Republican is accurate

Of course a Centrist is more favourable to businesses and Corporations than say a Bernie Sanders they are closer to the right but it doesn't mean they are Republicans :rip:

Saying he want these things is one thing, but then he does the opposite because he serves corporations. I can name things he actually fought for and did that is extremely republican. Obama Care would have been romney care if Romney won, it wouldnt matter.

Of course he can!

He has the most individual contributors (even more than Trump), beats Trump in almost every poll, is only two points behind Pete in Iowa (according to RCP), has the most donations from Latinos (which will help him secure Nevada and California, with California having the most delegates out of the other primary states), is first in New Hampshire, placing first in the latest Nevada  poll, has the strongest base of support out of everyone, has the most contributions in Obama-Trump counties, has the highest support among young people (which is important since the younger generation outvoted boomers for the first time in history in 2018), has the most contributions from women, is seen as the most authentic candidate and Dems trust him the most on healthcare, the economy and the environment.

Thanks for the succinct takedown, the facts are really quite illuminating unless you just don't want to believe it! :vegas:

My issue is not about what he could not get done, its about what he did get done. Im not expecting him to be a Bernie Sanders or a progressive. Im not even a progressive, im a Libertarian centrist but even I know Obama is a right winger. Being Charismatic and nice like Obama does not make you a moderate. Tulsi is a great example of being an actual moderate. If Bush or Trump did half the things Obama did, people would go insane.
