^ I understand and respect that as an *opinion.* But, why should Gaga's previous body of work impact the nomination a song of hers that is eligible for this specific voting cycle?

Popularity and promotion are not necessary for a SOTY nomination. I remember reading something vague about "breaking into the public consciousness" during the period, and if anything, the fact that ARUTW charted at #41 and has as many streams as it does without an official U.S. single release or live performances makes it more of a qualified candidate than a song that "made" it simply because it was pushed hard by a label.

ROTY is much more indicative of trends and commercial success than SOTY. The fact that the Grammys seem to have a habit of rewarding the same song(s) in both categories doesn't help distinguis the two, but the lineups this year show a clear change in direction beyond just the Gaga nod.

NFR, Lover, and SYL weren't nominated in any other category and are just as 'out of place' as ARUTW, if not moreso. NFR is even less of a commercial success and has much less impact on the GP; its inclusion would likely indicate that they simply wanted a song from one of the most acclaimed AOTY nominees to be in the GF competition. Lover, too, had not achieved much success during the voting period and received its only nomination in this category (similar to ARUTW and NFR).

Mess at anyone thinking 7 Rings  as a genre bending, innovative song. It deserved a ROTY nom for being a massive hit. But if the future of music means heavy sampling and recycled melody ... I'll take conventional songs written on a piano and guitar with heartfelt lyrics and a strong melody.

I'm rooting for Lana. She killed it this year with witty lyricism and a coherent sound. If not Lana, maybe HER or Bon Iver.

ARUTW is literally one of Gaga s best songs lmao. But yeah we were all surprised to see it in SOTY. She wont win anyway so I dont see whats the big deal.

Im glad the song got a nomination though! Interscope must know the potential smash that they lost...

This "the song is too old to be nominated smh my head" argument is so lame tho like what are eligibility periods for lmao? If it's within the eligibility period then clearly it's not, by all definitions, "too old"  :toofunny:

And no one talks about how H.E.R. got 5 noms AGAIN?? 2 times in a row for AOTY? Seems a bit too much for someone who was totally ignored by predictors :awkney:

"It wasn't necessary to nominate another song from "A Star Is Born" in a major category."

It's what many of us think, and it's not a bad thing or dragging her at all.

tbh I agree with the whole article, lets be honest who here was expecting the nomination? literally noone, because we are all awere that the song didnt smash in the states, it wasnt promoted, it really doesnt make much sense to be nominated. the reason it was nominated is because they cut her off on the AOTY noination and gave her SOTY as a compensation. Im happy she was nominated for SOTY, but honestly AOTY would have made soo much more sense. The nomination is a result of grammy politics.

also they spilled in the rest of the article as well :tea:

I read somewhere that her label doesn’t invest in promoting to the GP with her music, but only to people in the recording academy. It’s a lot like what most Oscar movies do.

I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill.

Mister G

Everyone trashing her for having this song nominated will be trashing her when she wins and then kissing her a** the very next day for snagging some more gold.
