Adakam 2
Why is this thread about attacking him instead of actually discussing what he said? Yes he did a lot of bad stuff, but thats literally irrelevant to the topic and doesnt help anyone. Now, about what he said, which is what matters here, he is kinda right, Americans are too brainwashed to hate anything that even remotely resembles socialism, and both Bernie and Warren, deservingly or not, already have that label (and not just from republicans), if they dont chill with their ideas, and if their fans try to pull some bs like #neverbiden or something stupid like that, say hello to another 4 years of trump. Obama didnt say that to hurt yalls feelings, he said that because he know what he is talking about waaaay more than any uneducated person who follows Bernie or Warren just because billionaires bad or some bs. And he knows that if we are not careful, trump will win again.

Whispering 18,865
“Even as we push the envelope and we are bold in our vision, we also have to be rooted in reality and the fact that voters, including the Democratic voters and certainly persuadable independents or even moderate Republicans, are not driven by the same views that are reflected on certain, you know, left-leaning Twitter feeds,” he said. I agree with Obama on this. The loudest on Twitter do not equal the majority of the voters that are voting in the Democratic Primary. I also agree with him about the silly purity test. None of the candidates are God. People act like they are in a cult sometimes over their candidate. It’s resembles the crazy Trumpers. Obama is also right about having a robust primary. It’s good practice for the candidates. They are going to have to be ready for what the GOP propaganda machine and the orange big baby throw at them. Cause you think "black people" overall will run away if ever someone's very tough on Obama's legacy ? Maybe you would do so but I doubt "black people" as a group tend to be that sensitive and protective of Obama like if he was a saint. See Sanders who's popular with black democrats now proposing policies that would strongly differ from Obama's ones for these controversial aspects that were discussed here... And he knows that if we are not careful, trump will win again. He is being critiqued and his past actions are being brought up precisely because they make him an unreliable voice to make this kind of statement. To paraphrase something Pete Buttigieg has said a few times, "The right are going to call us Socialists no matter what we propose, so why not lead with our best foot forward" - He's totally right about this. I'll put the rest in spoiler so I don't take up so much room: Spoiler We have to be fair and point out that an increasing number of people in America - especially millennials and Gen Z folk - don't have this culturally ingrained fear/hatred of the word "Socialism" anymore. That's mostly from republicans, especially on the fiscal conservative to outright capitalist libertarian spectrum, and boomer generation Democrats who think Biden is a progressive for not being... an outright racist Literally I've read too many articles about how centrism IS progressive!. We've seen data indicating that around 30% (and even up to 40% for the youngest people) of the country is okay with socialism or socialist policies in America. Some people even think Socialism is better than Capitalism. Gasp! Rand Paul was on a press tour a few weeks ago because he wrote a book about how he thinks this well documented phenomenon of people turning to Socialism over Capitalism is troubling or misguided... and everywhere he went he got booed outside of highly conservative/libertarian circles because people just flat out disagreed with his conclusions and the false premise of why socialism appeals to people in 2019 that he set up. The book is garbage btw, I read some of it. Bernie's policies aren't socialism incarnate - Warren's are even less so, but this idea that keeps getting passed around that calling X a Socialist or X idea "socialism!" is an immediate game over to someone's viability as a candidate because people on the left and the right hate it, and will always bend over backwards for moderate, centrist ideas... is tired and not accurate. Establishment democrats said the exact same thing 4 years ago - a 15 dollar minimum wage, universal health care, free public college, and many many more ideas were "too far left, too radical, too socialist, people won't go for it we need to pivot to the center to win" in 2015 about Bernie Sanders's ideas. They called them handouts, unrealistic, could never get support or be passed because they weren't popular or realistic. He went on to win over 40% of the vote in the Primaries, more of the independent voter %age than Hillary and Trump, and now almost all of his major policies are being discussed in the 2020 primary season in one form or another as issues people care about the most.. How can we say he's a crazy socialist who has no chance of being viable... when the agendas and plans of everyone from Pete Buttigieg to Andrew Yang are all capitalizing on the popularity of his platform? The only one who is truly regressive in that fact is Joe Biden, who literally said that Millenials need to get over it Disgusting. Also, he was very viable in 2016 and many pollsters and analysts to this day maintain that he was more likely to beat Trump than Hillary because Trump and Bernie both ran on economic populist policies that had bipartisan appeal Also.. Hillary was the centrist candidate, we said she would surely win because she appealed to people across the aisle by being a moderate pragmatist who was only really socially liberal (and barely at that oof). SHE LOST Literally we have years of proof in Obama, Bill Clinton, and Hillary that neither incrementalism, moderate policy, and moderate/centrist political campaigning are effective at increasing voter turn out OR making legislation easier to pass... We've been trying this, it ain't working. It is CLEAR that there is a powerful wave of progressive activism and increased political consciousness amongst people of all classes going on in this country (though especially among young people who are repeatedly increasing voter turn out in elections since 2016) We would not have moved in just a few years from where we were to where we are now if this wasn't the case... and he remains pushing the envelope to this day with his policy proposals. If Biden wins and M4A doesn't become a thing, you can bet your ass it will dominate political media for years to come, and even more candidates will support it next time in large part, because progressivism is not slowing down at all. More and more progressives are winning small seats in legislatures and executive branch positions across the country. If you'll recall, at the first major debate, every single person raised their hand and said they would support M4A legislation except Joe Biden who tried to half-ass it.... - and then 80% of them dropped their hands when asked about whether they want to remove Private Insurance. Kamala, Bernie, and Warren kept it raised. Kamala flip-flopped soon after when confronted by her donors, literally. To centrists - Make. It. Make. Sense. Has the political discourse moved further left since 2016 or stayed in the center? Further left, obviously. Do polls suggest that progressive policies only appeal to far left socialists? No, there aren't enough self described socialists or democratic socialists for this to be the case, polls show it appeals to everyday, working class citizens of all races. Is being labeled a socialist a death sentence? No, case and point Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren have a combined polling # that is higher than their centrist counterparts - Biden and Buttigieg. Now follow this point to its end... Why are we still saying these ideas are "too left to be accepted" when we've got approval and support for these policies around 50-70% depending on the issue Obama knows what hes saying. He is expressing his solidarity for the establishment politics that kept him in power, even as his "change" candidate status was squandered by corporate elites... Also, the only people supporting these ideas are not just leftists on twitter, like what? Affluent political pundits are big in talking about and explaining these ideas to an ignorant public on twitter, but that's not where the claim that they have support comes from. Most people that support Bernie Sanders aren't TYT workers, Kyle Kulinski and popular Left Youtube fans, or whatever... they are literally by all standards of demographic analysis in 2019 a multiracial assortment of women of color, men, latinx people especially, and Millenials and Gen-Z individuals. The connective tissue is that they are working class or entering the working class... 私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから
