Ally Campana 15,284
Her full statement below: The viral tweet: The people who wanted writing credits for ‘Truth Hurts’ but will not be given by Lizzo: Another accusation of plagiarism but this is for her other song ‘Juice’: What are your thoughts? Ally Campana 15,284
It seems like they will be heading to court for Truth Hurts: https://slate.com/culture/2019/10/lizzo-plagiarism-truth-hurts-dna-test-accusation.amp Does it matter? LilyLark 9,683
The Juice accusation is a complete farce. The 100% that b*tch tweet has some merit, tho, but to be fair it's not like people weren't making jokes about DNA tests ever since Ancestry and 23 and Me blew up. Like Lizzo credits that girl, so it obviously had an impact and she's being fair by giving the girl credit now, but I probably would have believed Lizzo came up on it on here own because there were a lot of similar types of quips floating around. Madling 1,981
Did Lizzo credit the tweet from day one or is it just since she was accused of plagiarism?

Agree. It’s not something that is unique that can only be made up by one person. But the Raisen brothers were adamant on the tweet being the inspiration. I guess that’s why she gave Mina the credit. Babel 40,887
This plagiarism thing is beyond stupid... they’re fighting over a phrase as if they discovered the cure to a deadly disease.
boneknuckleskin 776
Yeah I don’t think their claim holds much water. I first heard Beyoncé sing “put some respect on my check” in the APES**T single w/ Jay-Z and now you hear everyone singing about being paid respect on their checks—it’s just a phrase. Kudos for crediting Mina, tho. Edit: I’m not saying Beyoncé was first to coin that phrase, either. It’s just a thing that caught on somewhere and now it’s everywhere.
