The latest major poll predicts that the Centre Wing Liberals (led by Justin Trudeau) will win re-election this month but with fewer seats this time likely loosing Majority Government status

The Right Wing Conservatives are expected to remain the main opposition and probably the party gaining all the converted seats lost by other parties

The Left Wing NDP could loose almost half their seats... and the 4th biggest party the Green Party despite a 12% popular voter support is unlikely to win enough jurisdictions to win more than just a few seats

POLL Predictions Of Change In Seats For 3 Biggest Parties:

Liberals Now: 184 seats

After Election: 154 seats (-30)

Conservatives Now: 99 seats

After Election: 139 seats (+40)

NDP Now: 44 seats

After Election: 20 seats (-24)

The polls show only 15 seats difference on Liberals and Conservatives...

since a few members of parliament from different parties always overlap on views with other parties and dont always support their own party on everything... getting stuff passed with such a thin win is gonna be messy :duck:

this means another election in probably 2 years... 2021 here we come :bradley:

That was mid term elections tho right? We dont have that

whatever party wins the the most seats (party in power) the party leader is automatically the Prime Minister

you cant be prime minister and not have your party have the most seats

The midterms finishes the flip but when voting for president the house and senate is also up for grabs.

Every house rep every two years = midterm and presidential

Senate a third every two years

The Senate is harder to flip.

But yeah a PM or President not having majority sucksss

Yeah for us the house of Commons only changes during an actual general election... As for the Senate which we also have tbh i don’t remember how it works

But our system is a little funny because the terms can vary

A Majority Government gets 5 years but a Minority Government can have early elections sometimes just 2 years into term

Yeah you just really confused me lolol

I guess it’s what the uk call a snap election? Like Theresa May did that and she lost seats lmao Do y’all have that?

We have fixed election dates here. Every November is something on the ballot. Unless a special election is called due to resignation/death/scandal.

I think...lmao I put myself into this position

The senate is not elected. And a minority government can last as long as majority or just a day! As long as they have the votes. Wikipedia has all the deets.

I hope it is a Lib minority government so that Green MPs and NDP MPs can ensure the government does the right thing.

5 years is the standard term but with Minority Governments you can have earlier elections if you get enough votes for it

honestly i dont know the full details of how it works but @Sour Jube seems to understand better so maybe this user can explain :)

i follow economics more closely than politics even tho they overlap and are related...

so my knowledge on politics is more modest than my knowledge on macro-economics and markets lol

Based on these polls the NDP are loosing half their seats and the Green party will have only 1 :rip:

edit: wait does this mean Elizabeth May would be alone representing the Green Party?? :deadbanana:

Because the majority of human beings aren’t extremists. Most people aren’t hardcore conservatives or socialists, they fall in the middle
