Do BLACKPINK have a chance for “Best New Artist”?

DISCLAIMER: A K-Pop group IS the main topic of the thread, therefore we won’t tolerate any hate inside the thread about BLACKPINK nor any other groups.

So it is official, BLACKPINK has been submitted for Best New Artist. Now, since they debuted during 2016, why were just they submitted now?

• BLACKPINK has only got to have 2 albums (SQUARE UP and KILL THIS LOVE), the rule states that they can be niminated if they still don’t have 3 albums released.

• Also, they only have 7 singles released, 9 counting Don’t Know What To Do and Forever Young.

Now, since TWICE, Red Velvet and BTS aren’t really qualified due to them already overpassing these rules, there’s no competition for BLACKPINK to be the first K-Pop group to be nominated in Best New Artist, and it’s also possible due to YG pushing them to the American market, and the overwhelming success of DDU DU DDU DU and Kill this Love.

Is it possible? Will YG **** up again?

Billie Eilish including many of the other artists on the list have made a far better impact on the "musical landscape" compared to BP  (coming from a kpop stan)

BP brings nothing new to the table compared to any other kpop group at the moment, sissies don't deserve it. We seem to forget that talent plays a hand in this, and BP has none

And the fact they might qualify for this nomination just because YG starved them of content is tragic and just screams mediaplay bait

Saying that BLACKPINK doesn’t have talent seems really disrespectful considering 6 years of training. But I do agree with you on the 3rd paragraph, starving them of content feels ****.

I’m already waiting for *cough* someone *cough* to voice out how that K-Pop group is more deserving than BLACKPINK...

This is the first thing I thought when I found out, how does that work? Makes no sense to me that they've already been around for years and count for a new artist :air:

I’m sure he meant if they have a chance of being nominated. Not winning. About the talent, there are people that will be nominated (I’m not talking about Billie I’m a fan of her) and have absolutely no talent. I want to be respectful and won’t mention any names.

OP: It’s possible for them to be nominated. Besides Billie, Lil Nas X, Lizzo and maybe Ava Max, there aren’t many new artists. Remember, there will be eight nominees. Rosalía is a possibility too.

One can get nominated if not having yet a full album, or 30 singles released. Rise to prominence is also added as a criterion.

Who do you think will win? I think it’s between Billie and Lil nas :gum:

BIllie, Lil Nas and BLACKPINK for me to be honest.

Billie became a powerful force for this year, and BLACKPINK has been quite extraordinary. Lil Nas might get all the votes from the rap community but might lose due to some issues.
