It's only social transition to let the kid discover themselves and let other kids learn to accept them, it's healthy and monitored by the parents and psychologists. And most of all, it's not your kid, not your life, so no matter what is your opinion, it shouldn't affect this family. @River, I tend to agree. No thoughts about long term implications? I'm all about non-adherence to social norms though I've had friends who counsel twenty-somethings that were pissed at their parent's for lying to them about Santa Claus. In these cases,, the parent will always argue, "I did what you wanted" but will the child agree or will they wish their parents had given them different direction since they were so young? Certainly a tough matter but the fact that the mother waited four years and the childs opinion never waivered should IMO give more credence to the decision. As it stands I'm not trans and kids can feel a lot of things but at three what do they know about themselves or the world? They have just entered it. We go through a LOT especially in those years. They've barely learnt to walk and talk. Sorry but I'm not going to become some fake ass 'yes yes' bitch and throw all rationale out the window like sure Jan let your three year old believe they are something they may end up not being in 12 months. If they actually end up being trans at an older age then sure, support them. Obviously they're not actually transitioning now, no doctor would agree to it. For a reason. May not change your opinion much but don't lead the headline fool you. The child had these feelings at 3 and the mother waited four years before she made the decision to make the change because the child never changed her opinion. venusfly 17,885
Kids at 3 are still grasping how to count and form meaningful conversations... it's disturbing to me that they would be allowed to be led down a path where it's even conceivable that they are questioning their gender. Be open to your child's expressions of their identity as they grow up but its insane to even consider this before a child is even old enough to even have a proper identity in the first place. It's so nice to see parents who are fully welcoming and open to the idea that their kid may be trans but, come on ?

Sorry but I'm not going to become some fake ass 'yes yes' bitch and throw all rationale out the window like sure Jan what a hero let your three year old believe they are something they may end up not being in 12 months. I mean it's not like the whole process isn't traumatic for many trans people to go through physically and emotionally so why welcome an unnecessary pain if it can be avoided... If they actually end up being trans at an older age then sure, support them. Obviously they're not actually transitioning now, no doctor would agree to it. For a reason. Let kids be kids. Not even that, let toddlers be toddlers. “Let them dress and live however they want” that’s EXACTLY what the mother is doing. The child is not 3, she’s had these feelings since that age but the mother waited before going through any changes. Please read the article. Also if she wants to be called she and understands what being trans is, how is that bad? Adding labels is no different than her mother referring to her as “him” so why not just let her be labeled as she wants to? No ones asking you to be all “yes yes” whatever that means but you’re acting as if they’ve sent this child under many procedures to make this permanent when that isn’t the case. If she does randomly decide 12 months from now that she no longer identifies with being trans then okay. It’s not that big of a deal. Also I highly doubt that would happen considering she’s wanted this for years.

I think it's too soon to think about the future, the girl is seeing psychologists and there is a a safe nest behind her to make sure that she lives a happy and healthy life and will have them in the future, so in some sense, she's more psychologically maintained than most of the kids and even than us.. And in some sense, she will still be pissed off by her parents and still remember the bad stuff, we all do it, no matter our gender. Yes, this is true, she did it very smartly, it's the kid's journey at the end but she guided her to when to start this journey. holy scheisse 22,935
If my parents had been open to it I would've transitioned as a kid and never looked back. I'm cool with being male gender today, but also to this day, a strong part of my inner sense of self is feminine and I do wonder about what if. I remember having this deluded thought as a child that at some point in my future I would turn into a woman. Like I thought that was possible, which it is, but I thought it was inevitable, something that was bound to happen naturally. I remember verbalizing that to my mom and she was like wtf you crazy child that's not how biology works. But I think that was my inner self wanting to believe that things would be set straight one day?

GhettoFabulous 18,501
I’m sure they’re not going to make the child medically transition but I totally get allowing them to express themselves the way they want which is pretty cool tbh

At this age i was changing my mind about what i wanted to be when i grew up and what foods i liked and didnt like every 5 minutes dont criticize a kid for acting a certain way let them be themselves but dont encourage something as a big as a transition either. Their mind and emotional state still has so much maturing to do! yeah some ppl from a young age always felt trans. But theres also some who grow out of it so to speak speaking from personal experience its risky when i was a kid i wanted to be a girl and im so glad now that didnt happen. I love being a man and dont want that taken from me 👀 I just don't see the problem in actually acknowledging they don't feel like the gender assigned at birth. What happened to being born this way? Of course it's not the time for transition, but If a kid is unhappy with the label social services and the hospitsl put on them I don't see the problem in treating them as the gender they want to be? I'm surprised a forum made up of 90 percent gay people are against this.

Miracle 14,068
By the way, wearing dresses or heels is not equal to being a woman. Some people should keep their mouth shut if they have no idea about the topic.
