it being a duet with R. Kelly was the mistake. Had it been released with  a contemporary artist like Bruno Mars, better performances (SNL:fail:) and a great music video instead of that one I am thankful she scrapped after seeing those leaks!

I don't think i was a mistake at all. I understand why some people didn't like the choice, though. However, people on here overreact to it, as if it was a huge controvery that could have destroyed her, whereas in reality, the controversy was really minor and couldn't have affected her at all:shrug:

ASIB was huge but we can’t deny that it’s a soundtrack. She needs something in that level with her own studio album to cement that status. She was always an icon for a decade, I wouldn’t say legend.

Of course Riri will be a legend but I feel like she needs that cementing of the status too just like Gaga.

Soundtrack or not doesn't change anything imo. Music is music.

Whitney and Céline are icons only because of their soundtracks:shrug:

This is true for Celine and Whitney but Gaga is a very polarising figure. Whitney and Celine were (and still) known as the best singers in the world while many locals didn’t even know Gaga could sing before ASIB and knew her as a ‘gimmick-y pop act’. Their situations are not comparable. Gaga definitely needs another era of her own to cement herself as a legend.

I totally understand that, but I think the meat dress was enough for her to be remebered for the rest of time :)

Being remembered does not necessarily mean being a legend though. The meat dress was what actually ruined her rep among the GP but it was sooo iconic that I didn’t mind.

Do I even have to say Gaga? Among her peers, she is the only one to have visible influence on the music and fashion industry. Her contemporaries might find more success as popstars, but that doesn't mean influence.

Justin Timberlake never truly had what it took to be a legend, he’s an artist that made a career out of being attractive and having trendy producers on his records making catchy music, but he never pushed the social boundaries or changed the world. He’s more of a Bobby Brown than a Prince. Justin Bieber is the same imo.

Gaga, Adele, Beyoncé for sure, Taylor Swift as well. I hope P!nk and Christina also get the recognition they deserve.

As for male artists, Bruno Mars for sure.

Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Britney, Adele, Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Christina Aguilera if she releases more music next decade.

They all will hit it at varying degrees, eventually. It'll happen next decade for the lot of them. The only one that's fuzzy for me is Christina, and I hate to say that because I really do love her. She just takes way too long in between albums and never promotes them enough to actually make an impact. I wish she had the same passion for music as she did when she released Stripped and Back to Basics.
