Wrong. He didn't start supporting marriage equality until 2009.

He wasn't very vocal about it until 2009, but he definitely supported civil unions as early as 2000. As indicated below, he has many, many examples of sticking up for the community. And for anyone to pretend to be in good faith and criticize him for not going to a specific event is just nonsense. I do wish he would attend the forum because of his lengthy history for our community, but I understand that he can't go to every forum or every event. I don't criticize Warren or Biden for not attending the climate change forum the other day when climate change is the most looming existential threat to our existence, but by all means go off on Bernie for not going to one event.

Also, see his backing of a gay pride march as early as 1983. OR his comments in the 70s. etc etc etc

To be fair, he should be getting dragged by the same people who dragged Kamala when she was going to miss the climate crisis town hall (which she later ended up attending by moving around her schedule).

You are so fvcking defensive and sensitive about him ain't you? Like lay off. I already said I know his history and that OBVIOUSLY this doesn't say anything bout his stance on LGBTQ issues.

Furthermore this is about NOW, not the past and what he has said before, but about what he would do TODAY to protect and fight for the LGBTQ community.

Warren and Biden both attended the CNN townhall on climate change, so don't know what you're trying to prove there. They still attended at least one on the issue.

Stop acting as if he can't be criticized or trying to delegitimize those who do for something valid.

If Bernie cared enough about it and wanted to make it work, he'd make it happen. There are literally two separate events about it spaced out weeks apart. And it's a perfectly valid criticism to give him for not.

Gaga missed pride in my state due to scheduling conflict. I guess she's homophobic now  :saladga:

Yea, because that's exactly what the article said and implied huh? As well as me even after I pointed out his history on this issue.

Prime example of how people these days don't actually read anything but just see what they want, assume, and run with it.

Learn how to read.

His schedule is insane. More-so than any other candidate running. He has prior engagements. Candidates will have to miss events here and there. His record is strong and should not even be questioned because he missed these... I didn't see anything about Biden and Warren skipping the Climate Town Hall yesterday...

They both attended the CNN townhall on climate change a few weeks back so this isn't a valid excuse. At least so far Bernie won't be attending either event dedicated solely to LGBTQ issues eventhough they're spaced weeks apart.

Yeah thanks for the dogwhistle. Bernie doesn't have to prove that he supports the LGBT community like the other candidates who have remained silent for years or even decades. You're projecting.

Oh please lmaoooo go look up the definition for projection because you obviously don't get it.

Also, this isn't to prove they support the LGBTQ community, it's for candidates to tell voters how they're going to defend LGBTQ people, their rights and fight for them TODAY.

Not to mention the fact LGBTQ issues haven't been brought up or asked even once in any of the debates which is problematic. These events are to change that.

Maybe that doesn't matter to you, but you're one fvcking person, and I can assure you a lot in the LGBTQ community do care about that and want to hear from the candidates about what they will do and how they will fix everything Trump has done with targeting us.

Ok, let’s stick to the issues here and what actually matters. He’s not going. So what? He’s got the best record among all candidates when it comes to the LGBTQ. Don’t pull the “this is about NOW, not the past and what he has said before, but about what he would do TODAY to protect and fight for the LGBTQ community” because a record matters. And as of TODAY (since you care so much about TODAY) he has an LGBTQ agenda. So what are you mumbling about? The fact is, if he were to become president today, he’ll be a great one for the LGBTQ.

You’re just looking to argue about something today.

TF? There are few people on GGD that care more for LGTQ+ rights than I :ladyhaha:

I only said that I don't care that Bernie isn't going to one LGTBQ+ event and you're immediately assuming I don't care about LGTBQ+ rights.

What I meant about projecting is you project your negative feelings towards Sanders because I can guarantee you nobody would care if Harris or Biden (just random examples) wouldn't go. You're like most of US media trying to dissect every sneeze Sanders does or in this case doesn't do.

Seriously this paragraph is galling as all hell. Thank you, despite you not knowing me or anything about me apparently, for displaying "my personal beliefs" so open for everyone. You just made a poorly thought out thread, get the deserved mauling and lash out because you can't defend yourself anymore. Think about this and choose your words more wisely next time.

They can tell voters that everyday on their Twitter or at any meeting, debate, interview. This event is made for it indeed but it's just one of the numerous occasions they have for it.

The campaign is at its beginning, they'll surely tell us about that and for Sanders case it's not like if he didn't say clearly where he stands...

So we already know what he think about doing for LGBT people. We don't need to be told the obvious imo.

God this is such an embarrassing thread. Expressing disappointment in his absence is one thing, but this reeks of bad faith framing.

Anyway, it’s obvious where most people stand. The majority of us know Bernie Sanders has always and will continue to be on the right side of history. Missing two events and you framing it as if he suddenly not an ally is not going to erase that.

Let me say this slowly so you can understand (at least get this reference).

Jokes aside. I’m not defensive. I’m just providing the receipts of the many times he has stood up for the community even when it’s unpopular to demonstrate that his absence from this particular forum doesn’t make him available for criticism. And if we’re going to criticize candidates, there’s a lot more than can be used to criticize other candidates which is again why I was trying to point out that you’re being a bad faith actor here.

Bonus round! I was talking about the climate change FORUM hosted by MSNBC not the climate change forum hosted by CNN. Warren and Biden attended the CNN forum but not the MSNBC forum. And considering the importance of climate change, if you’re going to criticize Bernie for not going to this forum, then Biden & Warren should be criticized harshly for not attending the one relating to climate change which is arguably more important.

Extra Bonus Round: If you want to say that I am unwilling to criticize Bernie, it's because you people never post about the reasons to criticize him where other candidates are absolutely much worse than he is. So, until that's discussed, you probably won't hear me criticize him.

Pretty hilarious and ironic of you to say not to pretend to know you and your supposed beliefs right after you claimed to know me and that I don't like Bernie and so am projecting my negative beliefs about him on him. Hypocrisy much?? :ladyhaha:

I happen to live in the US and have supported Bernie since 2016, including now, thank you very much.

Just because I'm not blind enough and so defensive of him to not be able to criticize him. I believe he should attend one of these events and am disappointed in him not doing so. Please tell me how suddenly that means I don't like him and am "projecting"

Get your facts staright and stop being a hypocrite before you try to lecture me on anything.

What's embarrassing is you reading into things and putting words in my mouth. Where did I or the article say he suddenly isn't an ally anymore due to this?

Exactly. I didn't. Next!

Where is this LGBTQ agenda you speak of? Having a good record is one thing, but that doesn't mean he has a detailed agenda of what he would do for the LGBTQ community.

Whispering

He should of arranged to make one of the two.

I get him being at the MSNBC Climate Event, but he should have moved things around to make it to the other one.
