I tend to prefer Maker's Mark, Jameson, or a nice local/craft whiskey (Japan and Taiwan surprisingly have very good whiskeys) or bourbon/scotch – sometimes I'll drink straight with ice, but I also like mixing in drinks. If I have a mixer, the actual whiskey is less important than if I'm drinking it straight. (So for example, on planes I'll order a Jack + Coke.)
