xoxo Craig 55,649
Lets take a song like Shape of You - Very simple production, 4 chords which are repeated throughout the whole song and the subject is about how he likes his female bodies. This song managed to chart for over a year and was number one for many many weeks Perfect - Again, its about how he likes his women. Very simple ballad, and simple chord progression Galway Girl - Again, its about how he likes an Irish girl. Tried to spice it up with having some traditional Irish instruments... but was still very generic and bland. This song was over played to the max like many of his songs. South of The Border - Sounds exactly like Shape of You, we have heard it before. Subject matter is pretty shallow and, yup, about how he likes his women. Like can he come up with something else? Can he do something thats not a slow love ballad, or a generic pop song about how he likes his women? End Racism Now

True, I would appreciate if they used better harmonies but the truth is most pop songs nowadays use a chord sequence of 4 chords thats repeated throughout the song, including a lot of Gaga ones and Taylor's, Blank Space for exmample. You Need To Calm Down uses two. I still think most of the criticism you mentioned could be applied to both, but you're right

Please don't attack me and keep the discussion civil To me the biggest difference is intimacy. Some Taylor's song are very bland and general, but there always seems to be a personal element. Ala "Listen to some indie record that's much better than mine" from WANEGBT, "With every guitar scar on the back of my hand" from Lover, but Ed's songs nowadays seem so generic, there is nothing intimate or specifically Ed in his recent albums. But I kinda understand the comparison , they are both making chart-topping pop music. But I would disagree with the personality point as everything that Taylor makes, does is under extreme scrutiny, there were countless narratives where Taylor was a blank canvas which could suit whichever narrative you needed, whilst Ed is never under pressure to be political, to fight for rights, but this could be the difference between the UK and the USA as in the States everything seems to be partisan, you have to be A or B, whilst in Europe it seems to be more open, declaring your political options isn't a must for artists. Knew you'd make fun of me

I can listen to Megan The Stallion rap about *** and **** all day, but if I have to listen to a male rapper then ew no thanks. Doesn’t mean I don’t like rap songs from male rappers, but don’t tend to listen to them on my own. Ed is the same for me. He was cute when he was touring with Taylor but then he blew up and became an unbearable twat that makes music for Beckys and bros. You could argue Taylor’s music might be basic for some, but imo it’s not the same who will love me when the night is over

Taylucifer 5,166
Ok, but I feel like Taylor has more of a 'wow' factor. Like vs And Taylor switches up her style more when singing where as Ed is either singing or *trying* to rap 'The Life of a Showgirl' is out on Oct
Versace 7,981
Except that Taylor has always been pushed into a sexist serial dater narrative yet her and Ed both write about their countless experiences in love. Taylor gets harassed by the media into name dropping, while Ed does not. Critics question if Taylor truly writes her lyrics while Ed does not. Taylor's success is questioned while Ed's isn't. Discussions arise about her weight and image during her eras while Ed remains wearing the same shirt. Stream The Man on iTunes
