Okay. But why would people boycott Mulan? Why punish everyone who worked on it?

Yeah I'm sure everyone who worked on it is really punished from the millions the movie is going to earn.

It has more to do with her future earnings as studios will see her as less valuable to draw crowds.

I understand that Chinese actors usually don't have the choice and freedom to express independent thought. Remember what happened to Fan Bing Bing?

But why punish the  directors and producers and viewers for something an actress  that already got paid did, boycott the actress instead

Is it really "punishing" anyone by to decide not to go see a movie, especially one that's likely to make almost a billion dollars?  It's Disney, and the cast's, job to promote the movie to make people want to see it.

I mean she is entitled to her wrong opinions but as a public figure and actress she at least must know when to stay quiet. She has a HUGE movie to promote that was made by a huge company that promotes peace and she’s out here making this  controversial statements. Let’s not even mention how she’s an american citizen that wants lower rights for her people.  :saladga:

This. I also am surprised that Disney haven’t  contracted her to portray a certain image and avoid certain topics until the movie is out for a while (or maybe they did). Like you can have your own opinion but she also needs to realize it doesn’t affect just her but also people who have invested in her will have to deal with the repercussions.  The movie was shaping up to be a cultural spectacle but now finds it's lead actress leaving many people in distaste. A shame indeed. I will still watch the movie for the beloved story but for her sake and Disney, I hope she issues a genuine clarification/apology.
