"Lady Gaga refuses to be boxed in when it comes to her artistry. After cementing herself as one of this century's pop darlings, Gaga pivoted in another creative direction to show off her wide-ranging ability. The NYC native originally met Tony Bennett at a fundraising event in the Big Apple, and once they recorded a cover to "The Lady is a Tramp," the pair decided it was all systems go toward a jazz album. Gaga went back to her classical roots to flex her monstrous vocal chops, which were effortlessly accented by 92-year-old Bennett and luscious instrumentation. Cheek to Cheek would take home Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards."

Don't understand what Drake and Future are doing on the list and I didn't like Everything is Love but I guess we'll take that #4 nonetheless.

At the end of the day they are jazz covers. I hope Gaga does another collab album with someone else (Like Metallica, or someone in a less-pop genre) because she excels in all kinds of environments.

I love that she did Cheek to Cheek so much! It was such an off the wall move to do after ARTPOP.

I really hope she can do one more album with Tony, but I think it might be too late

Tbh I want a solo Gaga original jazz album. Of course she would bring in friends and collaborators for features. Brian of course, Tony would be cute too. I'm sure she wants to but I feel like Interscope doesn't think it's pop enough. I feel like Just Another Day is her jazziest pop song and that wasn't even on regular Joanne.

I want a rock record too but not now. Maybe in 5 years. Maybe someone less mainstream than Metallica. It's always nice to see her try out new stuff.

OT: Everything Is Love at #3 was... A choice. :awkney:

I doubt Interscope is holding her back, most likely she's just worried that it will be a critical flop (considering jazz is SUPER critical when it comes to originals and the like)

I mean the reason it could be Interscope would be: she is signed as a pop artist and every single album except C2C has been pop. Joanne is pop too (unlike what some in this fanbase think). C2C was much safer than an original jazz album would be. When she had a jazzy song that she obviously wanted to release, they didn't let her put it on the standard Joanne. Deluxe tracks are basically label rejects that she felt strongly enough about to pay money to have there.  She's just never released anything under Interscope that's not been pop other than something that had Tony Bennett on it which guaranteed some critical cushion.

I feel like she's clearly talented enough to make original jazz (if she made JAD and I'm sure had something to do with the jazz arrangements of her songs at the show, Paparazzi especially).

She might be holding back but I feel like if she did something original, it would be progressive jazz which likely has more critical leeway.

+ she likely wouldn't tour for it or Interscope would fear it's not enough in demand. They didn't even want her to do the jazz shows at MGM. She had to fight for it and do a limited run and when it sold out, she added dates. She said so at the show I was at.

@FATCAT tagging you because I edited my post so if you're already reading you'd refresh :)

Cheek to Cheek is a beautiful album.

That being said I’d gladly take the idea of her creating her own jazz songs for C3C.

Just Another Day was being recorded just weeks before Joanne was released. She was recording more tracks just to HAVE a deluxe album, otherwise we’d just have a standard.
