yas preach John Wayne is definitely one of her best, just as good as G.U.Y. it should have been a single of course but Interscope hates Gaga apparently.

“Fantastic, chic, freak, slay.”

Yes! It’s completely underrated, doesnttet talked about as much as it should. It’s so beautiful with all the neon colors, the high energy, the crazyGa. It was great

I read a criticism of Gaga's work that said she didn't know how to evolve her "weird shtick."  I think there is some truth to that. While she has been able to develop creatively in other ways - with acting and jazz- I'm not sure the same can be said about her pop music. The music videos for John Wayne and G.U.Y are examples of her treading water creatively, in my opinion.

I'd like to see her take notes from Roisin Murphy or Bjork, who are both able to maintain their unique creative perspectives, while evolving them in smart and interesting ways.

It's really great. The song is about losing control, getting high, going for wild men and how it's bad for you. The nauseatingly fast shots do a great job relecting this, getting faster and faster until it eventually kills her. I like that it has a clear message about how she's feeling.

But there's also lots of symbolism - snake tongue, fire breathers, dog getting run over amongst others. All these things were very conscious inclusions that must have some meaning, which is always super fun to think about.

Plus the great choreo (idk why everyone hates Richy, this is great). The fashion suited the Joanne era. The lighting and colours were great, and I love the comic onomatopoeia.

I think it's a very solid chapter in her videography. A good reflection of the song and the eras visuals and is the level of visual we expect from her while still being distinct from any of her other videos.

Funny. Camp. Grindhouse. Over the top. Love it !

PI > MR > JW were ment as episodes. With the previously on  first shot.

But déjà vu CrazeGa  and JW had no chance right after MR.

People crave for a killer ballad. And me too, I confess ! :nooo:

Bad timing for JW...

the video is fun but the scenes pass too fast

THIS is my only issue with the video. The camera is a mess and most of the time its hard to get a good look at Gaga and her outfits. It has the crazy camera from Perfect Illusion (wich I despise).

However I enjoy the video and its fun. It all happens too fast though, with no clear storyline even if its a part 3 of Joanne videos :selena:

GUY remains her last masterpiece in terms of music videos for me

It’s one of her least memorable music videos, in my opinion. From the “Suicide Squad” lighting/colour scheme and aesthetic that was something you’d see frequently at the time, to the incorporation of comedy and chaotic imagery that was also not very fresh, the editing that goes great with the track but also makes it predictable, the ok-ish location and ok-ish fashion (the gun heels are great but I had seen them before, more than once), and the sudden release, I found it all very late to the party.  It’s not her worst music video though, it just came and went cause it didn’t stand out. I also don’t care for the track, and the music video did nothing to change that.

Agreed, I think Gaga hasn’t been able to naturally progress when it comes to the things she’s most known for, her pop star side and avant-garde persona. She does not let go of it, but she doesn’t develop it either. It’s just there in a limbo, in my opinion.

Also, yes! I mentioned that before and I would also add Rihanna as an example of natural progression, now.

John Wayne was a bad single choice and the video was a cheap mess ! :trollga:    DIC would have been a much better single choice.......  And i hope she has a bigger MV budget for LG6

a music video in the style of her fame commercial would be amazing:excited:

No, it's sadly mediocre like all the Joanne vids. And tbh, the G.U.Y. video was also a mess :emma: She hasn't made a great video since Applause is the real truth.

What's with GD-ers posting great questions but not having polls :madge: I WANT TO VOTE :messga:

But yes this vid is underrated imo. I was so excited when it dropped it felt so fresh and fun and a return to form for her. I love how fast-paced and energetic it is, not bogged down by any intros outros or intermissions just short and sweet. It's weird and irreverent and honestly gave me everything I needed at the time. This MV made John Wayne go from a song I liked from the album to my favorite track (hence my user name :huntyga:). It's honestly up there as one of my favorite Gaga vids. Not to mention how ****ing hot she looks :cryga: And the outfits are everything. It gave me so much joy and I still get chills watching it :flower:

After reading this thread, it seems it is underrated by her fans :saladga: John Wayne >>>>>> G.U.Y. It’s her best video in a LONG time and has a very cohesive, entertaining, campy story.
