Actually she is that kind of artists, but everything is so metaphorical and symbolic that people just don't get it.

Requesting straightforward lyrics from her is actually pretty weird imo.

Well, I was actually giving more attention to the experimental-raw thing :poot: in that field, she's not that kind of artist, Gaga always compromises.

But as for the lyrics, yeah it's more or less. But I really love TFM for those metaphorical and highly meaningful messages (and sometimes with multiple meanings, like "So Happy I Could Die".

But honestly, she hasn't been that metaphorical since then. Born This Way was obviously quite straighforward, even ARTPOP was, Joanne was her trying to do both. Her lyrics habe become a bit more straightforward, and sometimes she tries to add more simbolism, but the quality is not the same, I don't know why.

As for straightforward lyrics that are, for me, the prime example: Joni Mitchell. Joni Mitchell created amazing albums, incredibly diverse in sounds, and she was able to do both metaphorical and straightforward lyrics with the same genius. And I'm happy we have Joni Mitchell in the world.

But she already done that though? I get that you're wanting a next phase of this, but Gaga is well known for not wanting to repeat herself.

Yes but we can say ARTPOP most experimental album of Gaga but we cant say ARTPOP is a full "experimental" album.

I agree but songs like MJH and Aura could be classified as experimental pop.

Born This Way is both straightforward and metaphorical. Imo, its 2 albums in one. Theres the cornball 80s hair metal by way of MeatLoaf tracks that are very blunt in their intent to be anthemic and "inspire" and then theres the darker more industrial/goth influenced pop that imo was more conceptually and lyrically adventurous. Albeit, the entire album was an experiment in camp and excess while trying its best to stay right at the line of a top 40 format at the same time. Not sure if you're giving it enough credit (and quite honestly not too many people do outside of the base) but i'll agree that about half the album is pretty straightforward with tracks like Born This Way, Hair, Bad Kids, etc. And since in conversations like this one must clarify with an eyeroll, to say what I am saying is not to insinuate that I think Gaga was on some Bjork or Nina Hagen level of avant garde-pop with her music. But imo, regardless of Gagas grandiose bravado in explaining her artistic process, that is never the point of her work. Always at the end of the day what is Lady Gaga?  A top 40 pop act. Its just that sometimes shes able to marry her want for eccentricity with algorithms better than other times. The Fame Monster has just been that one shining moment where her formula all came together perfectly.

oh yes, Born This Way is definitely her most experimental album yet. That was the closest to a "completely honest crazy record". Which is annoying for me, because her most experimental album yet was basically made during a time when she was enjoying a huge, unbelievable success, so she was comfortable to release anything. Since then, her career has been mainly about slowly regaining recognition and success. It's a choice, every artist has a trajectory, but personally I'd rather have an artist who releases a crazy, industrial electro rock pop Born This Way even during its lowest peak.

As for Born This Way being both straightforward and metaphorical: it's metaphorical in the sense that has that "living between Fantasy and Reality" lyrics, but it's very very straightforward in its concept. It's about individuality, self-acceptance, living life to the fullest, and no matter how weird the lyrics get that is always the meaning. It's pretty straightforward, no matter what you find in its weird lyrics.

While, for example, The Fame Monster truly is metaphorical. We know it's about "fears" and all that, but only because Gaga told us so. Listening to the album, without any information, there is not one straightforward concept about it. It can be interpreted in so many ways. And it's not forced at all, it sounds so simple yet makes you wonder. Is it about love and the dark side of it? Is it about the dark side of fame? Is it about addictions? There's so much going on and the only straightforward concept about it the "darkness", but that is in itself so metaphorical. She has never released that sort of album again, and after all these years I'm not sure she is able to.

I don't agree with this only because Born This Way conceptually is not a cohesive record. Its half anthemic self acceptance tracks and half Gaga meandering on about fame, the industry, love, and politics. Government Hooker, Heavy Metal Lover, Electric Chapel, Judas and Bloody Mary have nothing to do with that general concept you speak of that people seem to categorize this album under because of its lead single and promotion (understandable of course but I digress) which is why to me its like 2 albums in one. Because on one hand theres a singular message threaded between certain tracks but then you get the oddballs like Government Hooker that really have nothing to do with that narrative at all unless you get abstract with it and try to reach for how it fits into said narrative. Personally, I love The Fame Monster and think of it as her greatest work thus far, but I don't personally find it as deep as you imply in actuality I think its pretty light lyrically and incredibly straightforward mainstream pop (not an insult) but to each their own. Not to mention tracks like Bloody Mary or Heavy Metal Lover could easily slide into The Fame Monster tracklist and have fit upon its release so idk about all that lol
