Hardcore Porn 648
The only reason why social media compare each other is because they're both are women. But actually Gaga has more similarities with David Bowie.

Smother Em Eh 7,064
I do think Madonna’s artistic ability, the way she carries herself and fearless is inspired by Madonna. I agree though. I hear more Bowie in her music and performances then I do of Madonna. Get Applause & G.U.Y to 1B views!
FentyGa 14,340
by being a popstar, she's automatically madonna-influenced. Madonna and Michael Jackson are the blueprints for every popstar. Everything has been done by either one of them. I think because Gaga has such an old soul, she often takes inspiration from the same places as Madonna (old hollywood, Mae West, Marylin, as well as Björk), and it comes off as being inspired by Madonna. That said, there are definite moments of clear and direct influence from her. Most notably Born This Way, the Alejandro video (let's be real, that probably wouldn't have happened without Like A Prayer and the Sex book), and quite a bit of The Fame. It talks about the comparisons people make and explains that it wasn't her making those choices, that's kind of the entire point of this thread. The title is misleading then. ChromeAngel 3,230
Absolutely! There’s definitely artists that you can clearly see she took inspiration from, but Madonna is not one of them. Not even close. Ultimately she’s original though. Like the quote from a Star is born; music is the same story told over and over. The artist contributes their perspective and there’s no one like Gaga and there never will be. This is a special time to be alive and we’re all lucky to experience her. I missed out on Judy Garland and David Bowie and the Beatles and queen and even Michael Jackson for the most part. But We have Gaga
LadariousGarage 1
I think she is sorta influenced by Madonna, she paved the way for all female artists that are famous these days, but she isn't like "the new Madonna" or whatever Bowie, Freddie, and Elton I feel like are bigger influences for her Lets do it baby I know the Law
HotLikeMexico 5,059
Lady Gaga was totally inspired. Those words have come out of her mouth. To deny it is just crazy. To say it was people on her team making these choices for her is not true. She totally made these decisions and is aware of her influences as she is the artist behind everything she puts her name on. She has explained in the past that she has mood/reference boards for all her projects. However, that being said, Madonna is definitely not her only influence and this whole debate on who influences her is subjective. Aside from Madonna, to me personally, I see Grace Jones, Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Rob Halford during the BTW era, Marilyn Manson and Britney Spears to an extent. She has a myriad of influences and she's such a huge lover of music and art.

I see a lot more Freddy Mercury, Elton John, Cyndi Lauper, David Bowie, Whitney Houston and a whole lof of Bruce Springsteen (songs like Gypsy and the way she performs live) in her. Even Tori Amos because of the way she plays the piano so expressively. Not to mention the stylistic influence of Dale Bozzio(above), Grace Jones, Cher and the theatrics of bands like Kiss and Pink Floyd ( The monster ball angler fish) and Michael Jackson (storytelling music video's + the Love game MV is basically a tribute to MJ's Bad MV) Gaga is a sponge for pop culture just like Madonna was a sponge for 30's 40's and 50s movie stars like Marlene Dietrich and Marilyn Monroe and lots of her videos are directly influenced and referring movie scenes, some very obviously like Material Girl or Express yourself, some less obvious like The Power of Goodbye. According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch

I think if you genuinely believe this, you are very much in denial. Madonna wrote the book and Gaga revised and read it every night. Guest
Every big pop star was forced to say they inspiration is Madonna. Same with Britney Spears who is nothing like Madonna and her real inspiration is Janet. But the truth is every female artist is inspired by Madonna weather they know it or not and I dont even like Madonna.
