Blastertoyo 22,728
being mentioned in Monster? Is she getting two checks when she plays Monster? FfFfFfFF 54,892
No because referencing the title doesn't qualify as sampling.
derpmonster 22,412
Actually, you're probably right. Because of how legality works, unless she specifically signed off a contract with herself or her producers saying they could use Just Dance for free, she may not have been able to just ignore it. But also, it's not a full sample, so... If it were different labels, that could've been an issue. Fun fact: Microsoft makes its own computers under the Surface line. They have to pay themselves for a Windows license to prevent them from getting a competitive advantage over other companies who have to buy a Windows license for their computers. So if Microsoft makes $700 from a computer, they can only show $600 as being from the Surface line and $100 goes towards Windows. So, to shareholders, one may look less successful than the other. gypsy101 5,452
she says two words “just dance,” that does not qualify as sampling. in copyright when you quote melody you have to credit after 8 notes. she doesn’t even use the same melody on those words so she’s not even quoting it besides the title

Just Dance in Monster is just a short title reference.

bloody g 31,739
Isn't Monster recorded by the same writers and producers and distributed by the same label and all? I don't think there's any problem at all 『𝐟𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐝』
Gracious Gaga 17,163
Sounds like most of you guys haven’t heard about the lawsuit she went through over this. Her team did their best to keep it discreet and out of the public eye. Basically, she never asked herself for permission and when she found out she used her song title in the other song, she was pissed and immediately sued. Thankfully she won the battle, rightfully so. ♥ Kindness Police.

But lyrics referencing a song is not a sample. If that was the case you could literally find a song for every single lyric out there and everybody would be paying everybody
