FATCAT 60,888
LGBTQ should definitely boycott the venue until they change the policy. It's subtle racism, but it's still racist. This kitten over here (meow)
ice bear 1
a ban for songs containing swear words would have served the purpose better and avoided the situation... but if you're at a bar aren't you an adult and all...? ice heard one side from above

TimisaMonster 31,073
I would've understood if they said due to recent rappers containing homophobic messages in their music... However, not every rap song is bad... Idk if it's such a problem just don't have a DJ or put a sign that says no requests...simple as that instead of pointing out a genre. It's your bar...if you're so concerned about the music...create a premade playlist and that's that Stream my new single, 💜"Heartbeat"💜, on Spotify! I'm pretty sure it's more than that though. Seems like we weren't ever supposed to see that DJ email, and now they're just covering their asses. Zander 14,944
Does it class as racism? It just so happens that rap is mostly associated with black artists. They're not banning black artists? It's more to do with the "mumble-rap" genres of music - and I can sort of understand where they are coming from because its literally everywhere and gets requested a lot and they've likely just had enough of it being played all the time. It's their bar, so their rules... Just a poorly worded message. Lots of bars/clubs tend to have a certain sound they only play.

Its their bar, so their rules... Rap isn't just associated with black people, it's a huge piece of black culture. Just because they're not outright banning black artists doesn't mean the policy isn't racist. What race of artists will be most affected by the ban? Black artists. Throughout history there have been policies and bans like these, subtle racism that when you get to the heart of it, it's clear what they're doing. I misread the original text and didn't realise it was addressed towards Dj's at the booth. I thought it was just the general overhead music that plays in the background (bars and clubs are different things here in the uk) . Perhaps maybe that's the actual deeper intention is to drive away the crowd that comes with the music, which is pretty ironic considering how gay bars are meant to be inclusive of everyone. I thought it was more to do with it just being overplayed.
