I’ve had highs and lows with it. When it came out I was very critical of it. Then I loved it. Now I can enjoy it but it’s the album I go to the least.

Honestly I always loved ARTPOP, but since the Met Gala I realized this album is the epitome of CAMP: from the album cover to the themes and lyrics and to the music videos.

I kinda wish it was promoted in that direction and in a less pretentious way. Camp is ART nonetheless but from the way she anticipated it as a revolutionary artistic innovative album I can see why the critics and gp were confused and this is way it is so misunderstood.

Listening to it in full IS an experience. :firega: The individual songs are great, Venus, ARTPOP are masterpieces and all but the best experience is listening to it from start to finish.

Probably one of the most fun albums to listen to. You feel so elated and alive, like you can do anything. It’s impossible to stay still and you just want to dance, jump, twirl and slay. Ugh, amazing.

I think a big reason people didn't like ARTPOP at first was because they weren't sure what to make of it. It's *so unabashedly camp and at the time things were very "serious". Listen to the Manicure demo, for instance. It's all so insanely camp that we "cringe" because it's supposed to be like that. I think most people have a lack of understanding and appreciation of camp so they didn't quite "get" ARTPOP, easily her most queer album to date. As a progression from BTW, BTW was camp and fun but ARTPOP went even more camp and more meta to the point where I think people just thought she'd run out of ideas when in actuality she was holding a camp mirror to the Gaga persona. So just poor communication of ideas. I'm glad we love camp-ga now, though

ARTPOP used to be my second favorite album by Gaga but lately i think BTW hasnt aged as good so ARTPOP takes the top spot by a lot.

I just love how each song showcases a different side to Gaga’s personality. One minute she is silly, one minute serious, the next raging...I feel like her creativity and depth was really allowed to shine. :vegas:

I don't mean to be a hater but sis..  There's literally nothing innovative about it, half the instrumentals were made ages before  and left to the side before she used them. Also for that time they are pretty dated compared to where EDM was at in 2013

Just cause you can repeat a common opinion doesn't make it more right.

In fact, you yourself, are not innovative. You are lazy.

It's my opinion  and I'm allowed to give that :air: I didn't say I was innovative, I just disagree with ARTPOP being the 'most innovative pop album of all time' because to me that's silly to say

Wow! I love this thread! Let’s kee the positivity going. I love ARTPOPs o much, and it’s trye that it’s an experience. I think it’s funyn when people say it’s not cohesive because it most certainly is. She was able to tie in all these different sides to her and make it work cohesively. Message wise I think there is a more underlying message in the album. It truly is a journey listening from start to finish

Yes. The electronic music was executed in such a different and fresh way than the music that is popularized on radio. That’s one of the things that makes it so special. She used some familiar sounds, shaped and molded them in unusual ways and layed bop vocals on top to produce something that no other pop girl will ever be capable of. I don’t stan Gaga because she follows radio trends...I stan her because she challenges and changes the norms.

Some of this is for @Unbeweavable

It was definitely different at the time of release. X I love it

Bio

ARTPOP is probably my second fave album, just after Joanne. And they are so different! And I totally agree that the era should have been a camp fest instead of the pretentious artsy fartsy thing we got. I mean, Venus is the campiest thing I’ve heard in ages.
