Morphine Prince 109,654
Asked at a CNN town hall Monday night if he thought felons should be allowed to vote -- even while they're incarcerated, not just after they're released -- Sanders said the country needs more people to vote. "This is a democracy and we have got to expand that democracy, and I believe every single person does have the right to vote," he said. Sanders started his answer by pointing out the low rate of voter turnout in the United States when compared to other major democracies around the world. He said one of the primary priorities of his campaign is to make the US a "vibrant" democracy with a much higher voter turnout. And, Sanders said, enfranchising people like Dzhokhar Tsarnaev -- the US citizen who helped bomb the Boston Marathon in 2013, killing three and injuring hundreds of others -- is a part of that. "Yes, even for terrible people, because once you start chipping away and you say, 'Well, that guy committed a terrible crime, not going to let him vote. Well, that person did that. Not going to let that person vote,' you're running down a slippery slope," Sanders said when asked by a student if sex offenders, the Boston Marathon bomber, terrorists and murderers should have voting rights. He added: "So I believe people commit crimes and they paid the price and they have the right to vote. I believe even if they're in jail they're paying their price to society but that should not take away their inherent American right to participate in our democracy." Guest
Im not sure what my opinion is yet but I if he will allow criminals in prison to vote, there should be limits. If you have lifetime in prison, you should not vote. If you are a pedophile or a terrorist you should not vote. But if you commit a "crime" without a victim like being addicted to drugs, you should be able to vote.

Also on the topic, I've never really thought about people in prison voting. I guess they should. Call your therapist...it's Petie Estie

Whispering 18,865
I disagree with him on this issue. However, I believe that once a felon gets out of prison, they should be allowed to vote.

Bernie was already winning in polls in States like Utah and Montana.... The fight for incarcerated people getting the right to vote has been a long battle. Look at Florida for example. Educate yourself please before undermining the reasoning for such policies. Just look at statistics for the racists policies affecting black citizens in Milwaukee who get thrown into prisons for marijuana use. And we all know that black folks aren't the only ones smoking it up. Our justice system is so f'd that yes we do need a further look into how we treat those convicted. It's a much wider scope and issue. And we shouldn't take headlines for simple points like the CNN one. It obviously triggered conservatives.

Not everyone who disagrees with you is a troll and being a Trump supporter is the norm in America as 50% of your country supports him. The funny thing is the people who shame Trump supporters are Hilary supporters its like the pot calling the kettle black. @geopang I agree with Bernie policy but I thought that was funny. I have seen some downright vicious attacks on Bernie supporters from my Facebook friends because of these headlines. The accurate headline is "Some Trump supporters will go blue for Bernie, but only for Bernie." That headline makes Bernie look good instead of bad. So instead, they put all Bernie supporters into a box, label us political flip-floppers and Trump enthusiasts, and then Dems who can't see through the bullshit (so most Dems) demonize us for not supporting the party even though we do.
