Jadeykins 1,418
Weighing in on the SxSW drama (even though I wasn't invited) This performance is basically an artistic representation of rape. It's not a fun watch....in any way. It's very uncomfortable. It makes you squirm in your seat and look through your fingers (because vomit). I know most people don't see it as art but in my opinion it is. Art is supposed to make you feel something strongly not necessarily possitive and this performance does that. It's pure rage and it's nauseating and disturbing and confused (like being abused feels) I think it should be watched at least once. Making sure you understand exactly what it's expressing and understanding that if you've been through abuse it is very triggering. This performance effected me quite deeply back then and i don't watch it anymore but I think it's worth seeing because it really makes you feel how she felt then and it just makes me love her more tbh
Reject False Icons 4,777
@Davian thanks for recommending and defending SXSW specially Swine performance, It's an absolute catartic moment representing her feelings at that time, you can understand a bit of Gaga at he edgiest and one of her most controversial moments of her career. The art speaks itself, just by these quotes: "if you are a real artist you could turn that rage into the most beautiful art" "F**k you pop music, this is ARTPOP free yourselves" "I don't play by your f***ing rules this is my world" "i love my fans because they always let me be myself"

There's a difference between putting out a film about your life and your struggle and having to relive moments of your past that aren't a proper reflection of who you are. May I ask why you keep referring to Gaga having to relieve this moment? As far as I know we were talking about a stan relieving this moment. (Not that I think Gaga would never want to relieve this moment. She visits a therapist so I’m sure they reviewed this moment together. Or her breakdown during Dope at the Youtube Awards.) Also, it may be a different struggle between ARTPOP and Joanne but she still struggles. To quote herself, ‘I still stuggle. But this time I’m a woman struggling instead of a girl (during ARTPOP)’ But anyways let’s accept we have different opinions about this matter and call it a day. What you want Lady Gaga🥂 What you want with Christina🥂

baptism 2,670
I was entertained by the Swinefest performance at the time. I'm now saddened by it. It isn't something I'd ever recommend someone watch if they were looking to watch a Gaga performance. Absolutely not. I don't want to view her in that light and I'm certain if she could go back she would do a lot of things differently. It's not a career defining moment, it's a moment that would best go overlooked. Plus: I wanted to use quotes cause they were imporant to emphasize the message of the performance and not the controversy sorrounding it. That was never showed on the news

I disagree because lady gaga being raped was THE defining moment of her life. She's even stated "I don't want people to think that all the best moments of my career are down to one arsehole that did that to me. I did that" basically implying that even back in the monster ball days this event was shaping her career. And it really bothered her. Note how the fame monster was always "taking of her clothes" the character of Gaga was shaped in part by her being abused. She armoured herself against the world and eventually it started driving her insane. You can't keep things like that locked away forever and that performance was the start of her healing and just for that I think it's important. It's like a counseling session but musical haha For people who have been abused it is a way for them to express their feelings. It was for me and I don't think the importance of that should be taken away. It really shouldn't be overlooked.

I am getting there and Gaga has definitely helped me a lot! I thought she'd been through something for a long time before she actually came out about it so I guess that made it more emotional to me. Cause I'm proud of her yanno. And YES I thought about the quotes as well because they just said it all really didn't they!! but I couldn't remember all of them so glad you put it out there!! Italian 573
I would recommend this show She's got an amazing look, very good setlist - TEOG acoustic, Americano jazz, brought back Speechless, one ot the first You And I Performances, Orange Colored Sky as well For me this is one of her best full concerts (outside of tours) because she's doing something she hasn't really done on tour yet - mix pop with jazz

Her Hair performance that night is still one of my favourites She honours a Little Monster who sadly passed away, its heartwarming/breaking at the same time.
