Even before its premiere, the video received criticism from government officials and Jewish leaders in the group's homeland, who called the 30-second teaser that proceeded the full clip "irresponsible" and "tasteless" due to its depiction of band members wearing concentration camp prisoner uniforms, about to be hung at the gallows. (Rammstein have yet to respond to the backlash.) Now that the full song and video have been released, it's much more clear why those scenes appear — though it's still up for debate whether they are presented in good taste or not. "Deutschland" is clearly Rammstein's attempt to reconcile themselves with the history of their homeland, in all its glory and extreme ugliness. Their MV are always controversial. But they have never been on the insukting side. It always have been for good reasons. One must be new to them to shocked over that.
