May I take this moment to respectfully say that the “pop” thing at 21:00 was technically incorrect? Pop is a versatile genre that can take from any musical style. Pop can be rock, it can be R&B, it can be country, it can be electronic, it can be hip-hop, it can be dance, it can be Latin, it can be anything. All of Gaga’s music is pop music. The only album of hers that wasn’t pop was Cheek to Cheek. :huntyga:

With pop music, there’s a science behind the songwriting. It’s all about the verse-chorus-bridge structure and the goal of the song is for it to be catchy. The hook is the most important part of the entire song, most times at the expense of the composition, which is why so many pop songs are so watered down. Joanne and A Star Is Born were all focused on being catchy, so they were still pop, but they were rock and country at the same time instead of electronic like the classic Gaga albums were. :sis:

I think the reason why so many people refer to the classic Gaga years as “pop” is because electronic dance music was the pop music of our adolescence. When our age group thinks of pop music, we’ll always think of electronic dance music, whereas 70’s teens will always think of arena rock and disco and 80’s teens will always think of new wave and glam metal. So in reality it’s not that we want her to go back to pop music—she’s always been pop music except for Cheek to Cheek—it’s that we want her to go back to electronic dance music, because most of us are 2010’s teens. :vegas:
