Teal Ambition 47,805
Yes yes but not a fan of the SNL performance The one at the original artRAVE is SOO good ▌│█║▌║▌║ before I am Canadian, I am Chromatican ║▌║▌║█│▌
Moreck 15
Yes, 100%. That and Speechless are my two favorite songs of hers. IMO it should have been a single. Part of ARTPOP’s lack of appeal was bad single choices.

AndrewGr 6,022
Those who have not been to the artRAVE will never understand the emotional power that this song has. One of her most authentic and powerful moments of her career
GagaUnderYou 4,981
It's nostalgic af. Makes me kind of sad thinking about how much her career was a stress on her and T's relationship. Remember at artRave? "Taylor, I'm comin' home"
riotx 1,300
Yes. I was crying in the bus today while listening. I was thinking in all the country’s were she is banned and the Little Monsters there knowing that. Just break my heart and I couldn’t stop crying. Lol. It sounds kind of... junior to me and like it wasn't written for herself but for some Glee star trying to get a teen-oriented following with a debut single. The performance on Sukkiri was absolutely epic though. I really loved the one in Berlin as well. So it's not bad. I just don't like how it all sounded with the busy and glossy production. lol Madeon's signature sound. I also love the Howard Stern rendition. If she just did it without the production it's really a beautiful ballad. I like the studio version, but I think it shines when she just sits with it at the piano. Half the things she does or says are "cheesy" by some standards. It's one of her most authentic songs about a personal experience and just because you can't relate doesn't mean it's cheesy. What makes it cheesy? The way the synths kick in at around 0:20, at around 0:45 the song suddenly sounds like a rave for a bunch of 10-year olds, some of the lyrics are lazy songwriting to me, "I don't wanna be alone forever, maybe we can see the world together" is just such an obvious rhyme. The TONIGHT chorus is too basic for me and something I've heard so many times now. I love the Wizard of Oz reference, and it matches what the song is about, but the "hope my ruby shoes get us there quick" seems forced. It sounds very contrived in the rhythm and doesn't make too much sense either. Like, where do you want to go? A few lines before you said you were going nowhere, and the yellow brick is not the goal it is the way. It feels like she just wanted to throw in the reference for the sake of it. The lyrics of the rest of the song just kill it for me. "I'm I'm I'm I'm a gypsy gypsy gyps I'm" is just so cringeworthy to me. Also, "Why do we love each other, I said honey it's simple it's the way you love and treat your mother", come on... first of all the question "Why do we love each other?" is weird and "mother" is the only rhyme she could come up with? I have to cringe whenever fans actually thing she is our mother. I actually like the fact the she sings all the countries in the end. You seem to be very upset about people having a different opinion on a song. I'm sorry, but not everybody loves a song the same way you do. But nobody is going to take the song away from you, it's just that I, personally, have a problem with it. Concerning your last point: yes! A lot of Gaga's songs are cheesy (Eh, eh; Highway Unicorn, Hair, Gypsy, Come To Mama.), but I don't have to like everything she releases.

A lot of Gaga's songs are cheesy (Eh, eh; Highway Unicorn, Hair, Gypsy, Come To Mama.), but I don't have to like everything she releases. lol I'm curious why the country listing doesn't bother you with its cheese because that was the bit every reviewer made reference to as cringey in some manner or another lol I also think that you're trying a bit too hard to find direct meaning in the lyrics when it's more about the spirit of the song like most pop music is. That, and some of the lyrics read oddly as she shifts perspectives pretty fluidly throughout the song. The bridge in particular, the question "why do we love each other?" is not *so* weird when you think about it as it relates to Gaga and Taylor. It's not a cliche question you'd ask your partner, but I think in their romance where despite its unconventionality they deeply loved each other, this would feasibly be something that you think about. I think where the song stumbles, actually, is how it was made more universal, more "pop". That one demo we heard with the completely different lyrics really illuminates the intimacy of the song and I think in the final version, being a hybrid of more universal "pop" and the slightly weirder intimate specificity of the demo, it doesn't really do either exceptionally well lyrically. Still, the song shines best when she plays it at the piano because she taps back into that intimacy and pulls it all off well even the cheesy bits imo (like the country reading, the Oz references). Injecting it with a bit more of a Springsteen vibe there only helps the song.
